How to watch Downton Abbey: A New Era in Australia

After the first Downton Abbey film adaptation was released in 2019, the Crawley family returns with Downton Abbey: A New Era this year. There’s plenty of drama and intrigue to be had in this sequel, beginning with the mystery of the dowager countess’ newly inherited villa in France. Meanwhile, Hollywood shakes things up in the Downton household as the estate is used as a location to shoot a silent film. A must-see spectacle for longtime fans of the beloved series, Downton Abbey: A New Era is now available for streaming on demand in Australia. Find out how and where to watch the film using this guide.

In Downton Abbey 2, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, makes a surprise announcement about inheriting a villa in the South of France. Making their grand journey to uncover the mystery of the dowager countess’ newly inherited property are Robert Crawley (Lord Grantham) and his wife Cora, as well as their daughter Edith and her husband, Bertie Pelham. They’re also accompanied by Tom and Lucy and Lady Bagshaw.

Meanwhile, a film production company picks Downton as the location of a silent film called “The Gambler”, which thrills the household staff. Robert is initially opposed to the idea of a film crew scurrying across the house, but the handsome fee proves to be too appealing to turn down for his eldest daughter, Lady Mary Talbot.

When the movie’s future is threatened, Lady Mary and Downton’s household staff play a crucial role to keep it from getting cancelled. Meanwhile, Robert tries to figure out why the Marquis de Montmirail gifted her mother a luxurious villa, making him question his parentage. Aptly titled A New Era, fans are bound to see big changes as characters go on a life-changing journey to explore new horizons.

Julian Fellowes, the creator and writer of the TV series of the same name, wrote Downton Abbey: A New Era with Simon Curtis replacing Michael Engler (who directed the first movie) as director.
