Avenue 5 Season 2 preview

Avenue 5 is an interplanetary luxury space cruise ship that takes the paying public on trips to Saturn, but when a system failure turns the vessel into the outer reaches of space, the crew have two pressing problems – they have no idea how to turn the ship around, and have just about enough food to last a month. Faced with this unlikely situation, the ship’s team aim to calm and reassure passengers whilst finding a way to get the vessel back on course.

In Season 2, things are bound to get hilariously worse for everyone with the ship’s future hanging in the balance. Squabbles and all kinds of hoopla in the previous season brought about a misunderstanding that extended their journey time to eight years! New episodes from the second season, which pick up five months after failing to reroute the vessel, will deal with these outrageous turn of events.

Captain Ryan Clark, played by Hugh Laurie, remains at the helm of the ill-fated space cruise ship filled with clueless passengers and troublesome crew. The captain hasn’t even told the increasingly impatient snotty space tourists about their supposedly eight-week interplanetary cruise getting extended to eight years.

With their food supply running low and still no clue on how to correct their course, plus there’s the issue of their ship being on a collision course with the sun, there seems to have nothing left to do but to “internalise a lot of panic and fear”, as the overwhelmed captain said so in the Season 2 trailer.

The TV series is created by Armando Iannucci, best known for his work in Veep, who also serves as executive producer alongside Kevin Loader, Will Smith, Tony Roche, and Simon Blackwell.
