After a successful run on BBC One, the four-part crime series The Sixth Commandment is coming to Australia, bringing one of the most complex and confounding criminal cases to your screens. It follows the deaths of Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin in 2015 and 2017, and how it was perpetuated by culprit Ben Field, who manipulated his victims into starting a relationship with him until their tragic deaths.

Ahead of its television premiere in the country, here’s everything to know about the new BBC series, including release date in Australia, cast, and where to watch it.

What’s in this Guide?

The Sixth Commandment preview

This new gripping crime series revolves around the murders of Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin in Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire. It stars Timothy Spall (Spencer) as inspirational teacher Mr. Farquhar, who met charismatic PhD student Ben Field at Buckingham University.

Taking advantage of his loneliness and isolation, Field feigned love and presented himself as a friend, ally, and later a romantic partner, with the intention of being written into his will. Living a life in constant gaslighting and manipulation, Farquhar died in mysterious circumstances.

Following his death, Field set out to target Peter’s neighbour Anne Moore-Martin, 57 years his senior. Sticking to his vicious technique, the master manipulator tricked her into starting a romance and later into living together.

When Moore-Martin died, it aroused suspicions on Field’s involvement, ultimately connecting him to both deaths. What came next was the unraveling police investigation and Field’s eventual high-profile trial.

The crime series, which is based on a true story, is written by Sarah Phelps, best known for her work on EastEnders and A Very British Scandal. Directed by Saul Dibb (The Salisbury Poisonings), The Sixth Commandment is inspired by the BAFTA-nominated documentary Catching A Killer: A Diary From The Grave.
