How we make money
CompareTV is free to read and free to use. This page says how it is paid for, and what that does and does not change.
Affiliate links and commission
Many of the buttons and links to providers on CompareTV are affiliate links. If you follow one and sign up or buy, the provider may pay us a commission. The price is the one the provider sets: using our link does not cost you more.
Our buttons go through an address on this site (comparetv.com.au/go/) before they take you to the provider. That is how the provider’s network knows the sign-up came from us, and how we count which pages and buttons people use. Links like these are marked as sponsored, so search engines know they are commercial.
Not every link earns us money. Some of the services we cover pay us nothing when you sign up, and we cover them in the same way.
Advertising
We show ads on many of our pages. They are served by an advertising partner and the ad networks it works with, and we are paid when an ad is shown or clicked. Ads are marked “Advertisement”, and they are not part of our guides, lists or comparisons.
How we choose what to show
Our editors decide what we cover. We list services whether or not they pay us, and the prices and plan details we show come from the providers’ own information. Some plans are marked as featured and shown first in our comparisons, and a commercial relationship with a provider can be one of the reasons a plan is featured. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
What we keep when you click
When you press a button that leads to a provider, we keep a short record: the page and the button you used, the country your visit came from, and a random click number. The record does not hold your IP address or details of your browser.
If you arrive from one of our ads on Google or Microsoft, we also keep that ad’s click id, in a cookie for up to 90 days and in the click record, so we can measure which ads lead to sign-ups. Our privacy policy has the detail.
