Review updated July 4th, 2023

The Australian-owned telecommunications company, Moose Mobile, is known for its NBN connections and mobile plans that ensure customers stay connected. It may be a small Australian-operated telco, but its service has satisfied Moose users, enabling them to stream entertainment or browse the internet. Yet, you might wonder what plans are available for new customers with Moose or whether its features are good value for money.

We’ve looked at these issues, and more, in this Moose Broadband review. Before you choose Moose Mobile to be your NBN connection or mobile provider, here are the crucial facts you need to make a decision.

What’s In this Review

What Moose Plans are Available?

Four Moose NBN plans are available, ranging from their Starter NBN package to their Family NBN plan. We examined these plans closely in this part of our Moose NBN review to determine what they offer their customers.

Moose Starter NBN Plan (NBN 12)

With the Moose Starter NBN plan, Moose internet users can receive unlimited data on the NBN network with reliable speeds. If you’re unhappy with the Starter NBN pack at any point, Moose gives you a satisfaction guarantee that allows you to return your modem and get your money back within 21 days.

Generally, you can expect a good NBN connection with this plan, which you can use to browse the internet, send emails and stream music if your household has one or two people.

Moose Lite NBN Plan

If you opt for the Moose Lite NBN plan, you’re also eligible for the Moose satisfaction guarantee, so if you want to give your modem back and get a refund, you can do so within 21 days.

With their plans, you can stream standard-definition videos from entertainment services to one or two devices in your home, send emails, browse the internet and stream music. However, the quality might not be as good as other plans Moose provides.

Moose Everyday NBN Plan

You can select Moose’s Everyday NBN plan for unlimited data advantages. This option provides users unlimited data via the NBN network and the same satisfaction guarantee offered in Moose’s other internet plans (the option to return your Moose modem if dissatisfied with the plan and get a refund).

You can stream video, music and online games on multiple devices with the Moose Everyday NBN plan. Remember that the speed many NBN providers offer can vary, especially in peak times.

Moose Family NBN Plan

Looking for a very fast NBN plan? With Moose’s Family NBN plan, you can receive an NBN connection with a good download speed. Even though the speeds can fluctuate, you’ll receive unlimited data that transmits at high speeds.

The Moose Family NBN plan is the optimum choice if you want to stream entertainment services to your home devices, download large files or play online games, and have five or more people using the network. You can receive all this and a satisfaction guarantee as a bonus. So if you want to return your modem, you can do this and receive a full refund within 21 days.

What are the Features of Moose?

Moose offers users great value for money with its many top features, from free modem delivery to high-speed 4G data, which we explored in this section of our Moose NBN review.

Free Delivery On WiFi 6 Modem

If you don’t have your own modem or don’t want to configure a BYO modem or Netgear router, you can buy one from Moose. They will send it to you without any delivery costs, and you can look forward to a modem with the latest WiFi 6 capabilities. For example, the modem provides an enhanced WiFi capability of around 9.6Gbps, enabling you to stream entertainment on 12 devices, such as a laptop or tablet.

Mobile SIMs

Moose Broadband is more than an NBN provider. It offers mobile SIM options with a few unique perks. Choose Moose for a mobile SIM service; they’ll never force you to accept lock-in contracts. They’ll also let you take advantage of their data banking service for some of their plans, meaning that it carries over to the following month when you don’t use all of your data.

When you look at the Moose mobile website, you’ll notice six mobile SIM plans – so you can choose the data plan and perks that suit you. Some plans offer different amounts of international credit, ideal for making overseas calls, and others provide data banking.

Number Transfer Feature

Aside from the Moose home broadband features, there are a few other mobile perks. When you select a SIM, you can transfer your number and avoid choosing a new one. This process works in three steps. Moose users should first purchase their SIM, then wait for Moose to deliver it and then activate the SIM online or by calling Moose. Moose will transfer your number for you as soon as you want to activate it.

High-Speed 4G Data

Moose’s mobile connections run on the Optus 4G Plus Network, ensuring its users can easily stream movies and songs. Paired with this, if you need to check your coverage, this award-winning internet provider offers you the tools to monitor outages or poor connections in your local area. All that’s required is to search for a local address in the search bar and check the key coverage layers to determine if you’ve got good access to the Optus network.

What Are Moose Mobile’s Best Features?

  • Free delivery for a WiFi 6 capable modem
  • Easy number transfer from an old mobile
  • 4G data speed from the Optus 4G network
  • Various mobile SIM plans are available

Moose Internet Speed

The NBN speeds on offer from Moose Internet can depend on a few factors, such as network congestion and the technology they use to establish your connection. During peak times, Moose’s NBN plans have a slight decrease in their download speeds, just like many other NBN providers.

It’s also true that NBN rollout plans may lead to faster speeds, so upgrades from fibre to the node or fixed wireless to fibre to the premises may increase your internet speed.

You can choose from slower speeds, suitable for basic browsing, and other options ideal for streaming standard (SD) video. If you select a faster download speed, it’s possible to stream high-definition (HD) video or complete online gaming.

Moose Customer Service: How to Contact Moose

Moose NBN broadband users can expect great service and support from their representatives. The simplest way to contact Moose is to call them on 1300 566 673 for urgent matters.

Still, alternative options include emailing a representative at admin@moosemobile.com.au if you want to express issues related to Lite NBN plans, home wireless issues or difficulties with your Family NBN plan.

You’ve also got the option of sending a message to Moose representatives via their online form. All you need to do is enter your name, phone number, and email address and type your query. Select “Send Message”, and the customer support team will answer your query within 48 hours.

Moose customer service is available during weekdays between 9 am and 8 pm and weekends between 10 am and 6 pm.

How Does Moose Compare to Other Providers?

But does Moose’s service quality match its competitors? In this part of our Moose NBN review, we focus on how this telco company compares to other NBN providers, including Aussie Broadband, Telstra and Optus.

Moose Broadband VS Aussie Broadband

Moose Broadband lacks a few features that Aussie Broadband provides its users. With Aussie Broadband, you can establish a home phone connection and receive entertainment services such as Fetch TV bundled with your internet connection. Moose Mobile offers a few simpler features, such as mobile SIM packages and NBN deals but doesn’t offer entertainment bundles.

Regarding customer service, Aussie Broadband is slightly ahead of Moose Mobile, offering chat, phone and email communication channels. Moose Mobile does offer phone and email channels, but users cannot contact a representative via live chat. Many customers are very satisfied with Moose Mobile’s reliable service and friendly and helpful staff.

Aussie Broadband’s NBN internet plans are more costly than Moose Mobile but offer much higher internet speeds. For example, Aussie Broadband’s Power House NBN plan gives users exceptional download speeds. Moose Mobile’s maximum NBN deal offers a slightly slower download speed.

Aussie Broadband is more expensive than Moose Mobile, but you get the most out of your money when you choose Aussie Broadband.

Moose Broadband VS Telstra

Compared with Telstra, Moose Mobile doesn’t provide as many features. Telstra offers internet users entertainment streaming bundles such as Disney+, BINGE and Flash. It also provides companies with 5G home internet plans, accessories and business internet plans. Some of its plans are more expensive than Moose Mobile’s.

Customer service wise, Telstra offers a messaging service, support via My Telstra, multilingual support and in-store options if you need to contact their representatives. You can see that Moose Mobile offers fewer communication channels, such as email or phone contact options, but the team is still keen to offer great customer service that customers rate as excellent.

5G phones, international roaming and home phone services are also available with Telstra. While Moose Mobile offers international credit and information about international call rates, it does not offer 5G mobiles or home phone services.

Moose Broadband VS Optus Network

Although Moose Mobile’s SIM plans run on the Optus 4G network, and there are some similarities between the two, Optus offers a wide range of perks that Moose Mobile doesn’t. Optus provides a home phone connection service, entertainment streaming bundles such as Optus Sport and Netflix and several deals for its NBN connections, such as the chance to save a small fee each month for six months with their Everyday NBN plan.

Moose does offer good NBN connection plans at lower costs. For instance, users can sign up for the Family NBN plan, which is a little cheaper than Optus’ Family Entertainer NBN plan. However, Moose Mobile doesn’t provide any entertainment streaming or added extras, such as applications to manage their service or plans for students studying at university.

Optus’ customer service is good on the whole, but their customers’ experiences often vary depending on their specific query. Moose Mobile offers its customers positive customer support, which has received award-winning praise. Many customers claim its customer service is better than Optus’ and that its support is exceptional.

Moose Broadband VS Southern Phone

Compared with Southern Phone, Moose Mobile’s broadband plans have slightly different prices, but you get a faster download speed with Southern Phone’s NBN Superfast plan than with Moose Mobile’s Starter NBN plan.

Moose Mobile and Southern Phone provide exceptional customer service, and their users are generally content with their support. What makes Southern Phone slightly more convenient is its live chat option, which Moose Mobile does not offer. Despite this, Moose Mobile does offer a ticket system that suits users who prefer to express their broadband issues in writing.

Southern Phone offers a home phone plan for its customers, which meets the needs of its senior customers, while Moose Mobile doesn’t offer this service. You can also get refurbished phones from Southern Phone, which you can’t get with Moose Mobile. But with Moose Mobile, customers can take advantage of the satisfaction guarantee with all NBN plans, which Southern Phone doesn’t offer.

Moose Mobile Summary: Is it Right for You?

Moose Mobile is a small telco company in Australia, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider it when selecting a home broadband provider. Moose Mobile is an affordable option for NBN connections and SIM plans, so if you need a simple connection without any extras, this might be a good internet provider.

There are also deals to expect from Moose Mobile’s mobile plans. Plus, if you want to keep your phone number, this is also possible and easy to do with Moose Mobile.

Many other providers might suit your requirements if you’re searching for a more comprehensive NBN service, with entertainment bundles and discounts for NBN connections. Make sure you compare your broadband options before you select a provider, and visit Moose Mobile for more information about their services.
