Another crime drama from the UK is coming to Australia this month with Traces. It follows lab assistant Emma Hedges (Molly Windsor), who’s also training to be a forensic chemist, alongside Professor Sarah Gordon and Professor Kathy Torrance. Haunted by her mother’s unsolved murder, she seeks the support of her new colleagues to investigate the case again. Combining forensic science and good old detective work, they bring forth justice to a case that otherwise would have been just buried. Traces TV series preview
The mystery in Traces begins during an online forensic course when a young lab assistant discovers that the fictitious case study she was analysing has a connection to her past. Adamant to uncover the truth about her mother’s unsolved murder, she returns to her hometown of Dundee. There, she secures a job at the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy where she meets professors Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) and Kathy Torrence (Jennifer Spence).
While she clearly seeks justice, not everyone around her is supportive like her maternal aunt, Julie. When her new boss Sarah decides to help her, she is introduced to DI Neil McKinven. With the detective asking questions again about her mother’s case, a furious Julie chides Emma for bringing the past back. Meanwhile, McKinven urges Emma to halt her own personal investigations, believing that her mother’s killer is just around her.
Her resolve to uncover the truth also complicates her potential romantic relationship with construction director, Daniel MacAfee (Martin Compston). Daniel’s father, Phil, is presented as a questionable character. Halfway through the series, Daniel faces a homicide charge for a fatal fire in an effort to protect Phil’s reputation. But when Emma meets Phil, she instantly distrusts him, causing her relationship with Daniel to crumble. In the end, after all the suspicions and mysterious circumstances surrounding her mother’s murder, it’s the exacting forensic science that ultimately brings her closure.
In Traces Series 2, Emma Hedges, Sarah Gordon, and Kathy Torrance team up again to get to the bottom of who’s behind a deadly bombing campaign in Dundee. Using their impressive forensic background and impeccable instinct, they work tirelessly to identify the culprit and stop the tragic bombings. Molly Windsor, Laura Fraser, and Jennifer Spence all return to reprise their roles in the second season.

Traces Series 2 premieres in Australia on 6th April 2022 on BINGE and Foxtel. It originally premiered last February in the UK. The second season consists of six episodes, which streams weekly in the country. After over a month, Traces Series 2 concluded on 11th May. Traces Series 1, meanwhile, is available for streaming on demand on both streaming services.

Two seasons of Traces have been released so far. Traces Season 1 premiered in December 2019, while the new series, Traces Season 2, premiered in February 2022 in the UK and April 2022 in Australia. The show’s renewal for a third season has yet to be announced.
