Streaming Sports in Australia - Live and On Demand

For decades, sport streaming in Australia has been limited to free-to-air TV and Fox Sports. These days, however, if you want to watch live sports there are a wide range of streaming services available like Kayo, Telstra Live Pass, Optus Sport, BeIN Sports, NBA League Pass… the list is ever-growing. Sports streaming has quite literally never been easier. To make more sense of it all we are going to present the best live streaming options available now in Australia, all in one place.

What’s in this guide

Sports streaming in Australia

There has never been more choice when it comes to sports streaming in Australia than right now. It has become the easiest, most cost-effective way to watch our favourite events, games and competitions instantly on a range of devices – doing away with the need for cable installations and set-ups.

Well-established, dedicated sports channels like Fox Sports, ESPN and BeIN Sports are now available to stream alongside newer arrivals such as Kayo Sports, DAZN and Sports Flick, giving us a high quality, comprehensive choice of both domestic and international live sports streaming. On top of that, many of these providers offer free trials so that you can road-test their services for a limited period before committing to a subscription.

Watching everything from national sports like AFL and NRL to more internationally established competitions like Premier League Football and Formula 1 has never been easier. The biggest sporting events on the planet are available to watch Live, or at a more convenient time On Demand, meaning you don’t have to miss a minute of your favourite sport again.

But, it’s not just the bigger, more recognised sports you get access to. You can also stream Boxing, Football, Golf, Baseball and much, much more.

Another great advantage when it comes to most sports streaming providers is that most offer cancel at anytime contracts, meaning that you pay for the events that you want to watch, when you want. For those who love their sport all year round, there is also money-saving long-term plans.

Sports streaming is also a great way for several members of a household to enjoy watching multiple sports at the same time. Want to watch the Supercars whilst someone else wants to watch NFL or the NBA, no problem, there are options for live streaming on multiple static and mobile devices.

Stream the best live sports

The sports season never really ends. There is a constant ebb and flow of live games streaming across tons of sport dedicated channels, 24 hours a day. Everything from the Baggy Green Caps playing international cricket in the summer to the 26 players battling it out for the State of Origin in winter.

However, real sports fans want to stream much more. Boxing, NHL, NBL Basketball, International Cycling, Super League, World Surf League, it’s all available at the touch of a button. You can easily access these sports and more on your TV or mobile device with a live streaming subscription.

Here are some of the most popular live sports streaming in Australia now, whether you love to watch sports like NBA and NFL, or beloved national competitions like the Big Bash League and AFL.

The NRL is the biggest domestic Rugby League competition on the planet and features the best players to match. The season runs from March to October, and you can get access to every game live across the season. The NRL streams fixtures on several platforms both in Australia and for those travelling abroad such as Foxtel, Kayo Sports and the Watch NRL app.

The ultimate national game if there ever was one, the AFL features teams from all over Australia. Every game from the AFL Premiership can be streamed live or on demand via Fox, Kayo Sports, Seven Network (12 games per month regular season) and the Watch AFL app for those travelling overseas.

Formula 1

The pinnacle of motorsport on four wheels is F1, putting some of the best drivers and manufacturers on the planet head-to-head over 23 turbo-charged rounds. Streams of every race across the season from March through to December are exclusive to Foxtel and Kayo.

Australian domestic soccer is now made up of 12 teams with the addition of Macarthur FC. The A-League runs from December to June and features a total of 24 rounds before the finals. Live streams of every game from every round are broadcast on Foxtel Now and Kayo, which can be viewed with free trials. One game per week is broadcast on ABC, with live streams available on iView.

The Repco Supercars Series is a national treasure for local motorsports fans, heading to every corner of the country, as well as New Zealand for 12 exciting rounds. Streams of every practice session, SuperSprint and Race are broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo, with selected races also available to stream via Seven Network’s 7Plus.

The National Basketball Association is the world’s most celebrated basketball competition. You can access selected NBA streams live or on demand right across the regular season, playoffs and finals with Foxtel Now and Kayo, who both offer free trials. Streams of 2-3 regular-season games also go out on SBS Viceland. If you want to access every single game across the NBA season, you may want to check the NBA League Pass.

Free trials for sport streaming

If you would like to watch these sports with a free trial simply select one of the two options below.

Free trials for streaming sport

These days you can take advantage of a wide range of free trials from multiple streaming providers. This is also the case for sport, with the likes of Kayo, Foxtel Now and Stan Sport all offering free trials on a wide range of static and mobile devices. This means that if a particular event is coming up and you don’t have an existing subscription, you can check it all out with Foxtel Now or Kayo Free Trial.

Most free trials are available to new and returning customers. Providers that do not give free trials offer an element of discount over a longer period, apart from Optus and DAZN. Even though there is no free trial available with Telstra, for example, they do offer alternative discounts and reduced costs over a 12 months contract.

Best streaming providers for sport

Here you can compare Australian sport streaming services. Several provide a free trial to watch premium sports, whilst others offer incentives for a longer subscription. All of these quality services give you access to multiple channels. Find out how you can take advantage of their latest offers and get instant access to their unrivalled content.

AFL 2021

Kayo Sports

Kayo Sports is a leader in sports streaming in Australia, and offers a key point of difference to many of its competitors – you pay for sports, and nothing else. Kayo Sports offers all 14 channels available with Fox Sports, which amounts to over 50 live sports events and competitions. Channels include Fox Footy, Fox League, Fox Cricket, ESPN Australia and beIN sports, so you never have to miss the best games.

The provider also offers a 14 day free trial to check out their service before choosing your subscription. Once your free trial is over simply choose between two Kayo streaming plans. The Basic Package, at $25 per month, allows you to watch sports on two screens simultaneously, whilst a Premium Package gives you three screens for $35 per month. Both packages let you watch channels from Fox Sports, ESPN and beIN Sports.

Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now streaming service offers all the same benefits that come with Foxtel, but without the need for an installation or set up. It even comes with a Foxtel 10 day free trial. The service lets you tune in to everything that’s available on the regular Foxtel platform, but instead of watching via cable or a satellite dish, you can live stream content online using their app. After your free trial is over you can add the sports pack for $24 per month.

With the Foxtel Now Sports pack you can watch sports on all Fox Sports channels as well as ESPN and BeIN. That means that as well as AFL and NRL you can stream sports events like PGA Golf, BBL cricket, Formula 1, Supercars, Premier League replays and more. All content on Foxtel Now is available to watch in High Definition.

Kayo from Telstra

Kayo from Telstra charge as little as $15 per month for the Basic Package (live streaming on up to two devices) – giving you access to all of Kayo’s 50+ sports live for a fraction of the cost. A Premium Kayo Telstra offer is also available for $25 per month, allowing you to watch on up to three devices if you require it. All you need is an existing Telstra account. Kayo from Telstra is also the best option for former AFL and NRL live pass users, with all games included in both Basic and Premium plans.

To take advantage of the Kayo Sports from Telstra streaming service, you’ll need to sign up to Kayo Sports via your Telstra account and select the plan should you be eligible. It should be noted that Kayo from Telstra comes as part of a 12-month contract for both basic and premium plans, but the potential saving of $120 over a year is a big pull for all-round sports fans. The offer includes access to 14 live sports channels.

Optus does not offer a free trial.
