The Reckoning delves into the life and career of British media personality Jimmy Savile, who, for decades, enjoyed a prolific and enduring career on television.

Using his popularity and charitable pretences, he succeeded in forging connections with reputable institutions, expanding his influence through his friendships with high-profile figures.

With his position cemented, Savile was able to hide his crimes and bask in the failings of institutions that were supposed to decry his horrendous acts and put him away for good.

BBC’s The Reckoning aims to confront the horrors of the past by tackling extensive acts of abuse that, harrowingly, proliferated in plain sight.

The BBC’s announcement of the show’s production was met with controversy, even more so with the network broadcasting the series in 2023. When Savile’s harrowing offences became public, the media giant was accused of playing a role in helping his crimes go undetected.

The Reckoning is partly based on Dan Davies’ book In Plain Sight: the Life and Lies of Jimmy Savile, and directed by Sandra Goldbacher and David Blair.

You can watch the trailer for the BBC series right here.
