The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It movie preview

The Conjuring 3 is based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, who murdered his landlord in 1981. However, he denied his involvement in the crime, citing his being possessed by the devil. As the trial ensued, he became the first murder suspect to claim demonic possession as defense.

In The Devil Made Me Do It, the latest of The Conjuring movies, it all begins with the Warrens documenting the exorcism of a young boy, David. This leads to another possession, this time the demonic presence entering Arne Johnson’s body, resulting in the murder case that attracted international media attention in the early 1980s. Ed Warren sees the whole thing happening and swears to investigate the original possession that brings about a tragedy and destroys a family.

In reality, the boy’s family did enlist demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren to save him. The Warrens also supported Johnson’s claim of demonic possession, further fueling the media attention that the murder case was attracting. The events of how the possession took place were documented by Gerald Brittle, which was published with the help of Lorraine Warren. The published book, The Devil In Connecticut, is where The Conjuring 3 is based from.

The latest of The Conjuring films, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It hits major horror notes with Farmiga and Wilson’s brilliant performances at the forefront. It is directed by Michael Chaves, with the screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick from a story by Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan.
