It’s been twenty years since the news of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami shocked the world. In National Geographic’s new docuseries, we’re taken back to one of modern history’s darkest times when a massive earthquake in the Indian ocean generated a tsunami extremely powerful and unforgiving that it devastated coastal towns in 14 countries within minutes.

Tsunami: Race Against Time provides devastating personal accounts from the people who survived the catastrophe, the rescuers and doctors who risked their lives to save others, the journalists who broke the dreadful news, and the scientists who raced against time to warn the world.

Providing agonising footage from that tragic day, the factual program also highlights stories of bravery and resilience, delving into the incredible strength displayed by survivors even during moments of utter chaos and destruction.

The documentary series is executive produced by Tanya Winston and Danny Horan and directed by Daniel Bogado, best known for his work in 9/11: One Day in America, also a Nat Geo original.
