How to watch TAR movie in Australia

Cate Blanchett once again shows she’s at the top of her game in this new psychological drama by director Todd Field, TAR. Set in the international world of Western classical music, Blanchett portrays Lydia Tar, the first female conductor of a major German orchestra. Fierce and brilliant, she is also widely considered as one of the world’s best living conductors. But when accusations of misconduct threaten her career, she is forced to confront her inner demons and retrace her roots.

Tar garnered widespread acclaim with Blanchett winning Best Actress at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. She was also nominated at the Academy Awards. The movie itself also earned Best Picture and Best Director nominations at the Oscars. Finally dropping in Australia for streaming online, here’s how you can watch TAR instantly on demand.

With her talent, ingenuity, and reputable track record, there’s no stopping Lydia Tar, Berlin Philharmonic’s first female conductor. But days away from recording a symphony that will bring her career to the next level, she finds herself at the centre of protests and controversy. With stories of past abuse of young women coming to light, her impressive life of accomplishments abruptly goes down the drain.

She loses her teaching post at Juilliard and her distinguished position as the conductor of a live recording of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Aggravating the chaos, her wife Sharon, extremely frustrated at her refusal to communicate, leaves and prevents her from seeing their daughter.

As she grows alarmingly depressed and unstable, her shocking final outburst becomes the culmination of every rage, guilt, and shame she has bottled up inside her.

Featuring Blanchett’s enthralling performance as the main character, Tar’s complex narrative goes hand in hand with its multi-layered themes, generating much analysis from audiences who find themselves impressed and puzzled at the same time (the final scene where she’s shown doing a live performance of the score from the video game series Monster Hunter spawned so many questions).

While Tar was released in October 2022 in the US, the movie had a resurgence during the 2022-2023 awards season with Cate Blanchett racking up awards. Writer and director Todd Field was also recognised as master filmmaker when he was nominated for Best Director at he 95th at the Academy Awards.
