King Richard is an engrossing family drama that tells the story of two of the greatest tennis players of all time, Venus and Serena Williams. Delving into their humble beginnings, it also revolves around their father and coach, Richard Williams, and how he has inspired and molded his daughters into the iconic athletes that they became to be. Finally arriving on streaming TV in Australia, find out how you can watch the King Richard movie starring Will Smith using this guide.

King Richard is based on a true story about Richard Williams, the father and coach of two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time, Serena and Venus Williams. Williams has always aspired his daughters to become professional tennis players, having a clear vision of their future and setting up a plan for success before they were even born. While working as a security guard, he coaches Venus and Serena on a daily basis, together with his wife, Brandy, who works as a nurse.

Despite his daughters’ potential, he initially struggles to find them a professional coach. Working tirelessly to make things happen for them, he eventually crosses paths with Coach Rick Macci, who instantly sees that the girls have a promising future ahead of them. Knowing that Serena and Venus Willams changed tennis forever, the coach couldn’t be more right.

But finding success is not without its challenges. As the girls are catapulted into the world of professional tennis, at that time heavily laced with racism and misogyny, Williams goes to great lengths to protect her daughters, all the while they are treated as outsiders among the predominantly white, upper-class competitions.

Will Smith, who’s also a two-time Oscar nominee, finally wins Best Actor for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the film. It is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green from a screenplay written by Zach Baylin. Both Venus and Serena Williams served as executive producers.
