A prequel to the hit slasher movie X, Pearl is the technicolor inspired origin story of the villainous title character that brought you terror in X. Set in 1918, it follows a young Pearl with Mia Goth reprising her role, whose desperation to become a movie star pushed her to the brink of madness that resulted in unthinkable acts of violence. Both X and Pearl were released in 2022, with the latter launching just six months after X.

Directed by Ti West, the Pearl movie is the second instalment in the X film series. A direct sequel to X titled MaXXXine, is currently in the works. But first, let’s find out how to watch Pearl online in Australia.

What’s in this Guide?

Pearl is a young woman who aspires for a glamorous life she’s seen in the movies, which she cannot pursue as she’s stuck at her family’s isolated farm caring for her ailing father. She’s also under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother, who disapproves of her dream of being a chorus girl.

With her lack of freedom and strong yearning to escape what she perceives as a dreary life, Pearl finds her desires and repressions unmasking her true wicked nature.

Pearl, subtitled An X-traordinary Origin Story, delves into the disturbing origins of X‘s iconic villain, learning how her twisted world had begun. Receiving acclaim from horror fans and critics alike, it’s an astonishing follow up to X, showcasing the brilliant Mia Goth performance and fresh gore to boot.

Stuck at an isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her sick father and constantly suffer her mother’s dominating presence. As she’s unable to live her life the way she wants to, her desperation and resentment only aggravated a woman with a menacing penchant for violence.

In October, it will then become available on paid streaming services.
