What is the plot of Death in Paradise?

Saint Marie, a fictional Caribbean Island, may be an idyllic paradise but its spectacular tropical vibe doesn’t mean it’s mysterious crime-free. And so DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) is sent from the Metropolitan Police in London to investigate the murder of a British police officer.

After solving the crime, he stays to become the new detective inspector as per his superiors’ order, much to his chagrin. As it turns out, the detective hates the island and has no idea how to fit in, so he continues to wear his suits despite the tropical weather.

Thirteen seasons in and Death in Paradise remains to be a television staple. After Poole, many police officers have come and gone, leaving us with Saint-Marie’s recent detective inspector, DI Neville Parker, who was first introduced in season 9.

Just like his predecessors, he was initially reluctant to stay but later learned how to adapt to the island lifestyle. He may be fine with living the island life but there’s still always a murder investigation and tragic accident to tackle, so what’s next for DI Parker and the citizens of Saint-Marie?

In the new season 13, the first episode being the show’s 100th, DI Parker is back to solve more crimes in this Caribbean mystery drama that shows no signs of slowing down.

It begins with Commissioner Patterson celebrating his 50 years in the service, only for an unexpected enemy to emerge. DI Neville, meanwhile, must find a way to accept and deal with Sophie’s decisions.

Catherine Bordey (Élizabeth Bourgine), meanwhile, finds herself entangled in a murder case after an old friend is suspected of the crime. Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) also rethinks his future, while DS Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) decides to be herself, maybe a little too much, while restarting her love life.

New and returning faces arrive on Saint Marie as the series celebrates its 100th episode upon season 13 premiere. Ralf Little reprises his role as Neville Parker, while Don Warrington plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson. Marlon Collins (Sean Maguire) also appears for the second time.
