Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, Shetland TV series follows Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez and the mysterious crimes that the close knit island community of Shetland are afflicted with.

Shetland Season 7 was a bittersweet season for long-time fans of the show with Douglas Henshall, who played Jimmy Perez, leaving the series after seven seasons.

While his character’s arc is given a proper ending, not having DI Perez around to lead investigations and other mysterious crimes on the islands is bound to shake things up with the Scottish police.

In Shetland Season 8, Ashley Jensen (Extras) joined the cast as DI Ruth Calder. She took over detective duties from Douglas Henshall’s Detective Inspector Jimmy Pérez, and joined forces with Alison O’Donnell’s newly promoted DI Alison “Tosh” McIntosh, a regular character since the first season.

DI Calder is a big shot detective with the Met in London, whose investigation of an informant’s murder led her all the way to Shetland, the very place she happened to grow up in. Naturally, she crosses paths with DI Tosh and they begin to investigate the crime together.

In Shetland Season 9, DI Calder decides to stay after discovering the identity of Ellen Quinn’s killer. This means more crimes to investigate alongside DI Tosh, whose next case becomes personal as it involves the disappearance of her friend Annie (Sarah MacGillivray).

Joining the Shetland cast for the new season are Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder, Alison O’Donnell as DI Alison “Tosh” McIntosh, Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson, Lewis Howden as Billy McBride, Anne Kidd as Cora McLean, Angus Miller as Donnie Russell, Steven Miller as Reverend Alan Calder, Conor McCarry as PC Alex Grant, and Tibu Fortes as Harry Lamont.

Shetland has nine seasons with Shetland Series 9 finally available for streaming in Australia as of this writing. Every season of the popular British crime drama, from Season 1 all the way to Season 8, is available to watch with a BritBox subscription.
