What is Grand Designs?

Premiering in 1999, Grand Designs has since grown into an architecture spectacle that’s been entertaining fans for decades. British designer and writer Kevin McCloud became a television staple as the show’s presenter since its debut, guiding people through every architectural home-building project.

At the heart of the show are people who give it their all to build their dream house. Equipped with a vision, patience, and resolve, they work alongside McCloud to transform their dream home into a reality.

Often, these houses are built with modern design and energy efficiency in mind. Maximising space and views is also being taken with prudent consideration. More than experiencing delight in seeing people accomplish their dream houses, the series captures attention with the type of designs being utilised for every project, which is either extremely unique or extravagant.

Grand Designs can also be a riveting watch, especially when some homeowners refuse to give up on their dream home despite their resources running out. They also have to overcome other challenges, including delays, major changes, and other unexpected issues.

Since its premiere, the show has reeled in viewers from around the globe, prompting international versions like Grand Designs Australia, Grand Designs New Zealand, Grand Designs Sweden, and Grand Designs Finland. It airs on Channel 4 in the UK and Foxtel, Foxtel Now, and BINGE in Australia.
