Country music sees a transformative shake-up with Beyoncé dropping her latest album, the chart-topping “Cowboy Carter”. Lil Nas X’s country rap hit “Old Town Road” also showcases a diversified presentation of the genre. But not everyone in the industry is ready to embrace such diversity.

In Call Me Country, the impact of big artists like Beyoncé and Lil Nas X diving into country music is examined. As they further stir the revolution within the genre, it is revealed that Black artists in Nashville have been paving the way for this transformation for some time.

Paying homage to the Black roots of country music, Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” has since become a massive success with 27 songs spanning 78 minutes. One of the lead singles, “Texas Hold ‘Em”, debuted during Super Bowl LVIII and topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyoncé’s Call Me Country documentary is produced by CNN FlashDocs.

Beyoncé’s Call Me Country documentary will feature interviews with prominent country music figures including Brothers Osborne, Rissi Palmer, Aaron Vance, Denitia and banjo player Rhiannon Giddens, who was featured on Beyoncé’s hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em”.

It also includes analysis from culture and country music experts including Touré, Larisha Paul, Chris Molanphy, Kyle Coroneos, Keith Hill, and Holly G. and Tanner D, Co-Directors of the Black Opry.

There are hundreds of music documentaries available for streaming in Australia if you enjoy delving into the personal and professional stories of your favourite artists.

With the Foxtel and BINGE catalogue alone, you can stream like The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years, Jagged, DMX: Don’t Try to Understand, Juice Wrld: Into The Abyss, and more.
