Two of the most evenly matched teams in the Premier League come in the form of Arsenal and Leicester City. Arsenal was the only team to beat the Foxes home and away, in that title-winning season for the club from the East Midlands. Several years on, does that still matter?

It’s only two games into the new season and each team’s season trajectories are still to be determined or finalized. For Arsenal, the expectation has remained the same since the early 2000s (which says more about their fans than the club itself), and desire the Premier League title, even if Mikel Arteta is still in the midst of a heavy re-building phase.

Leicester installed Brendan Rodgers as their managerial figurehead back in 2019 and has become a dynamic thinking head coach who uses all the pieces and elements within his squad with the end goal to win more than his fair share of football matches. Ultimately the supporters got a taste of UEFA Champions League action and want it back. The club has missed out on achieving on several occasions having played in the Europa and Europa Conference League but not the top competitions.

The action is set to begin in the Emirates at the local time of 15:00 on Saturday, 13th of August. Over here in Australia, that gives us a 12:00 am kick-off (AEST). It’s not terrible if you’re back home early from a night out, or if you want to stay up a little later to watch a fantastic fixture from the Premier League.

Arsenal key players

If you remember the days of Sebastian Squillaci, Andre Santos, and David Luiz then you’ll appreciate that Arsenal’s defence has been incredibly brittle for the better part of a decade. That trend started to be rectified with the arrival of Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Japanese defender has been an integral part of making Arsenal capable of keeping opposition attackers at bay.

Another two key figures at the Emirates come in the form of the two English youngsters, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe. The two young English players have been granted a lot more opportunity than previously provided to Arsenal youth, as Arteta is building not only a team but a new Arsenal generation.

Leicester key players

Now into his 10th season with Leicester, Jamie Vardy is just as relevant now as when he walked in the door from Fleetwood Town. The experienced forward has shown great adaptability to work with a multitude of different managers and continually shifts his style to suit a whole decade of new incoming and outgoing players.

James Maddison is also an exceptional talent who can deliver inch-perfect balls to the precise location needed, making him an ideal service provider for Jamie Vardy who is more than willing to blast or tap the balls in.

After this exciting match from the Premier League, there’s always another game from the league on the way, however, Optus always have more football to watch. For one, there’s the Women’s Super League. Arsenal and Leicester City’s Women’s teams both play in that division so you can watch that fixture. In addition, there’s action from Tomiyasu’s homeland as you can watch The J-League on Optus Sport, including the Arsenal man’s former team: Avispa Fukuoka.

The EPL is about much more than one team. Check out our team pages below and stay right up to date with their latest matches.
