LA Lakers

The LA Lakers are one of the most famous names in basketball history, with championship banners lining the rafters at the Crypto Com Arena where they currently play all their home games.

Boasting some of the biggest names in the history of the sport, the Lakers have transcended basketball and found a global audience, with millions of Lakers shirts being worn around the world. It’s not difficult to see why, either, with the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and Magic Johnson, to name just three…

Led by the most recent star in LA colours, LeBron James, the Lakers are always a threat (and even expected) to make a deep run at the championships. Having most recently won a title, James will want to take his beloved team all the way once again after a somewhat season last time out.

With Anthony Davis becoming the latest global superstar among the Lakers ranks, you can’t count them out of going one clear of the Boston Celtics in the honours list. Read our article below to discover all you need to know about how to watch live NBA games in Australia.

LA Lakers NBA preview

While the Lakers took the glory back in 2020, the latest NBA team to beat has been the Golden State Warriors, led by the irrepressible Steph Curry. But you can never rule the Lakers out with LeBron James in the squad, especially with a supporting cast including Austin Reaves, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.

Since winning the Championship in 2020, the Lakers haven’t had much luck in the past couple of seasons. While they did make the playoffs in 2021, they lost out in the first round – then didn’t even make the playoffs last year, finishing 4th in the Pacific table.

This year the Lakers (and James) have promised much more to come, and with fire in their belly after a disappointing 2021-22 showing, who knows how the Lakers will pan out. While they didn’t make the best start, there’s plenty of time to turn it around.

LA Lakers championships

In 2020 the Lakers matched the Boston Celtics as the joint-most successful team in NBA history, with their mammoth 17th NBA Championship. Having won their first title in 1949, the Lakers were early front-runners by winning multiple Championships in the 1950s.

While also successful across the 1980s (winning 5 more titles), the Lakers fell away a little bit in the 1990s, failing to win a Championship between 1991 and 2000. The early noughties brought more success, however, with the Lakers winning a treble from 2000-2002 and another from 2008-2010.

After another barren decade from 2010 onwards, the Lakers broke their absence from the top of the sport in 2020 – but can they go one ahead of the Celtics in 2022-23?

Watch the NBA finals live

The NBA finals series is the most anticipated sporting event in the basketball calendar. Fans the world over watch and stream the very best face off against one another, first of all in the conference playoffs and then the NBA Championship series.

The NBA Championship is the very pinnacle of basketball. But it’s never an easy feat to take the title. Even the Lakers have gone 10 years without winning (2010-2020), but you can always rely on them to make a solid tilt at glory.

Tune in to one of the following streaming services to catch all the action from the NBA postseason live in Australia!
