Gladiator 2, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s award-winning historical epic is finally making its highly anticipated premiere.
Gladiator II follows Lucius, Maximus and Lucilla’s son. Similar to his father’s harrowing ordeal, he loses his family after an attack meant to invade, forcing him to be a slave.
Unaccepting of his wretched fate at the hands of corrupt emperors, he swears to regain his honour and seek revenge by fighting in the colosseum as a gladiator, the same arena that heroically ended his father’s life.

With Paramount Pictures distributing the new film, it’s likely for Gladiator II to make its streaming premiere on Paramount+ after its theatrical run. Foxtel and BINGE are likely to screen the movie as well, considering their ongoing content deal with Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS).
It is, however, worth noting that new movies are released digitally via pay per view (e.g., Apple TV, Google Play, Fetch, Prime Video Store, and Microsoft) first prior to arriving on subscription streaming.

Gladiator (2000), also directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, won the Academy Award for Best Picture with Crowe winning Best Actor. It was the second highest-grossing film of 2000, coming after Mission: Impossible 2.
It was inspired by Daniel P. Mannix’s novel Those About to Die, which was also adapted as a TV series.
What is the Gladiator 2 plot?
Over 20 years after the events of the first film, Lucius’ (Paul Mescal) ordinary life in Numidia with his wife and child ends tragically after Roman soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) attack and invade the province, forcing him into slavery.
He is then brought home in Rome to fight as a gladiator, guided by his mentor Macrinus (Denzel Washington), a former slave who schemes to overthrow Rome’s corrupt leaders, Emperor Geta and his brother Emperor Caracalla, played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger, respectively.
Driven by rage and the legacy that his father had left behind, Lucius resolves to fight and win no matter what, avenging the loss of his family and home. If victorious, Rome might have a chance to return where it truly belongs: its people.
Gladiator II is directed by Ridley Scott from a story by David Scarpa and Peter Craig. Scott also produces the film alongside Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, and David Franzoni. Prior the film’s release, it has also been confirmed that Gladiator III is already in the works.
