Disney and Pixar’s latest original feature film offering brings us Elemental, a movie in which elements of nature come alive and do jobs and businesses to thrive or survive. The story introduces Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis), a fiery young woman, literally, who meets water element Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie). Despite their ironically elemental differences, they fall in love. But in Element City, where everyone is adamant that elements don’t mix, a story like theirs certainly comes with daunting challenges, which they’ll attempt to overcome. As they go for it, they end up discovering life’s grand adventures and what it means to seek freedom for oneself.

Elemental movie plot
In Element City, fire, water, land, and air residents live together. The Pixar film then focuses on Ember, daughter of fire elements Bernie and Cinder Lumen. The Lumens own a convenience store called the Fireplace and set up a Blue Flame to represent their traditions. Bernie takes pride in the family business, who plans to retire and pass the torch to Ember. Unbeknownst even to Ember herself, she really doesn’t want to take over.
Instead, she wants to find her own path and decide what she wants for herself, which she ultimately discovers when she meets water element Wade. However, as the pair grows closer, reality sets in and Ember is torn whether to follow her heart or live up to her family’s expectations.
Elemental is directed by Peter Sohn, best known for his works in The Good Dinosaur and Partly Cloudy short, from a story by Sohn, John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh.

Elemental movie release date
Disney and Pixar’s original feature film set in Element City hit Australian theatres last 15 June 2023. It was a moderate blockbuster success, becoming a sleeper hit despite low box office projections. Almost three months after, it will make its streaming TV debut on Disney Plus on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.
