How to watch Insecure TV show

Insecure TV Series

Receiving eight Emmy award nominations for its previous season alone gives you a rough idea of just how good Insecure is. It’s a smart, stylish, and comical depiction of life in modern-day Los Angeles, through the eyes of two best friends. This comedy series is created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore and is based on Rae’s web series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Find out how to watch the final episodes here.

Insecure series recap

Insecure’s two female protagonists, Issa and Molly, have been best friends since their college days at Stanford. Molly is a successful lawyer who’s having a hard time finding Mr. Perfect and dating men becomes a tricky road to navigate, while Issa works for a non-profit company and is struggling to reconnect with her long-term boyfriend, Martin (Jay Ellis).

As the series progresses, the two twenty-somethings work their way around career and relationship experiences. How they deal with their internal struggles, the tricky professional landscape of Los Angeles, and the African American community creates some awkward experiences, ultimately shaping the essence and intention of the show. The half-hour comedy series is also bolstered by the characters’ stories, everyday dilemmas, and the humour that comes from all of it.

If you’re a huge fan of the show, you’ll know already that each season is packed with quality, from its on point gags to its highly accomplished performances, marking Issa Rae out as a serious talent with a big future. Insecure also comes with a killer soundtrack, with the music for the first season composed by a certain Raphael Saadiq.

Four seasons in and the series continues to deliver a combination of sharp comedy and heartwarming drama. Season 4, in particular, was remarkably lauded with the first episode titled “Lowkey Feelin’ Myself” setting the fourth season up for a highly successful run. As expected, it was renewed for another season. However, HBO announced this year that the fifth season will be its last, with Issa Rae expected to go on to big things.

Insecure Season 5 preview

For fans who have been waiting for over a year, the acclaimed TV series is set to return next month for a fifth and final season, which Issa Rae wrote during the lockdown. In its concluding ten episodes, Issa and Molly will continue to examine their relationships, both new and old, in an attempt to figure out what happens in the next phase of their lives, and whether they can do anything about it.
