Playing Gracie Darling is Paramount+’s latest Australian original, following the disappearance of Gracie Darling after a séance gone wrong. Twenty seven years later, Gracie’s best friend Joni is still haunted by the incident, even more so when another girl vanishes under similar circumstances. Coincidence? Not quite, forcing Joni to confront her past and the secrets it dangerously harbours.

The new mystery drama premieres Thursday, 14 August 2025 with all six episodes launching on Paramount Plus. Paramount+ Australia continues to grow its local programming with the addition of a new series starring Morgana O’Reilly. What is the plot of Playing Gracie Darling?
At age 14, Joni (Morgana O’Reilly) lost her best friend Gracie when the latter mysteriously disappeared during a séance. She has not been the same ever since. Nearly three decades later, the local teenagers have a ball by indulging in a creepy game called ‘Playing Gracie Darling’, named after the girl who was never found. That all stops when the supposedly exhilarating séance takes another young girl—again.
Recognising that the girl’s disappearance is similar to what happened to Gracie, Joni has to muster courage to confront her past and find the eerie truth, once and for all. Playing Gracie Darling is created and written by Miranda Nation (Undertow) and directed by Jonathan Brough (The End).
