Chicago PD, an equally popular spin-off of Chicago Fire, returns for its eleventh season this month.

It’s part of the Wolf Entertainment’s Chicago franchise by Dick Wolf, which revolves around men and women whose day-to-day involve saving lives and fighting crimes. With Chicago P.D., it centres on the fictional 21st District and the patrol officers and the Intelligence unit it houses.

The launch of Chicago P.D. Season 10 last year still has fans shocked following a surprising development that involved an integral character leaving from the halls of Chicago Police Department. With our major characters lives interconnected big time, this is something that’ll affect the rest of Chicago PD team.

What is the plot of Chicago P.D.?

Throughout the seasons, Chicago P.D. has faced serious developments in its direction, retaining only some of its major characters from the first season: Sergeant Hank Voight, Officer Adam Ruzek, Officer Kim Burgess, Officer Kevin Atwater, and Detective Jay Halstead. As the series continues to grow, there are more changes that’ll both shock and sadden the fans.

In the past seasons, it’s an understatement to say that Chicago Police Department’s District 21 and its Intelligence unit has been through a lot. Chicago’s elite group of detectives may be some of the best and the fiercest, but guilt and the constant horrors brought about by tragedies will eventually take its toll.

One of the recent tragic setbacks is the death of Voight’s undercover informant, Anna, at the hands of the Intelligence team in the Chicago PD Season 9 finale. As the team’s plan to take down Javier Escano went awry, Anna became both a victim and a culprit in just a single episode.

It’s suffice to say that the aftermath of her death played a crucial role in how season 10 was delivered, especially for Voight. But the unit has to deal with more bad news with Jesse Lee Soffer’s Detective Jay Halstead exiting the series during the first half of season 10.

This is quite puzzling for fans of the long-time crime drama considering Halstead’s connection is deeply embedded across ‘One Chicago’. His character even appeared on Chicago Fire even before Chicago PD premiered on TV. He’s married to Tracy Spiridakos’ Detective Hailey Upton, who’s currently refusing to deal with her husband’s decision to move to Bolivia.

As for Burgess and Ruzek, fans rejoiced seeing the couple get back together in Season 10, Episode 17. While they clearly still have romantic feelings for each other, they spent the past three seasons as platonic co-parents, which is why their reconciliation is welcome news to fans of the show. But knowing the cliffhanger ending of Chicago PD Season 10, could their newly rekindled romance be short-lived?

You’ll know more about the direction that the new season will be taking with new episodes streaming in Australia from 18 January on BINGE and 19 January on Foxtel and Foxtel Now.
