Trap movie: Release date and where to watch in Australia

M. Night Shyamalan’s new psychological thriller, the Trap movie, stars Josh Hartnett as a serial killer attending a pop concert with his teenage daughter.

Master of plot twists M. Night Shyamalan adds Trap to his extensive roster of psychological thrillers, which began with 1999’s The Sixth Sense. His new film follows a serial caller dubbed as “The Butcher ” joining his young daughter at a concert, only to discover the whole event is a scheme. The authorities had received intel that the notorious killer will be in attendance and have set up an elaborate trap to catch him.

You can catch the premiere of Trap in Australia on Thursday, 1 August.

With Warner Bros. distributing in Australia, we can expect the Trap movie starring Josh Hartnett to arrive on BINGE, Foxtel Now, and Foxtel for streaming on demand, following in the footsteps of other Warner Bros. movies like Barbie, Blue Beetle, The Nun II, and others.

However, considering the surprising deal between Warner Bros. and Netflix, it’s also possible for the Trap movie to be streaming on Netflix at some point after finishing its run on BINGE and Foxtel.

It is, however, worth noting that most new films are released digitally via pay per view (e.g., Apple TV, Google Play, Fetch, Prime Video Store, and Microsoft) before arriving on subscription streaming

Josh Hartnett plays Cooper, a seemingly regular man with a teenage daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue). In truth, Cooper is a serial killer whom the authorities and the public call “The Butcher”. What we can expect to be suspense-filled events will kick off at Lady Raven’s (played by Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka Shyamalan ) concert, with Riley being a huge fan and Cooper playing the supportive father.

Trap is partly inspired by Operation Flagship, a sting operation that successfully arrested 101 fugitives while at a convention centre. They were present believing that they were invited to receive free NFL tickets. Shyamalan then changed the setting into a concert based on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

As with his previous movies, Night Shyamalan wrote and directed Trap. He also served as producer alongside Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock.
