A remake of the 2018 French-language film by Olivier Masset-Depasse, the riveting thriller will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, a streaming service that’s part of the larger Amazon Prime. What is the movie Mothers’ Instinct about?
Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway) are best friends and neighbours whose inseparable bond is shattered one day when Celine’s son, Max, falls to his death. Alice becomes consumed with guilt, spotting Max prior to his accident and still unable to save him. Celine becomes paralysed with grief and secretly blames Alice for her son’s death.
When Celine grows closer with Alice’s son Theo, she becomes obsessed with protecting him from any danger. Her closeness with her friend’s son becomes a source of distress for her husband Damian (Josh Charles), who thinks she has forgotten about her own child, and Alice herself, who begins to suspect that her grieving friend is scheming to hurt her and her family.
The two women, now fringed with a new form of maternal love, battle it out until the very end while intoxicated with delusions and overwhelming remorse.
The 2024 film Mothers’ Instinct is directed by Benoît Delhomme in his directorial debut from a screenplay written by Sarah Conradt. Lead stars Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway also serve as producers alongside Kelly Carmichael, Paul Nelson, and Jacques-Henri Bronckart.
