The Boys Season 4: TV release date and where to watch in Australia

The stakes are higher in The Boys Season 4 with Homelander rising to even greater power. Stream the first three episodes tonight!

Giving other comic book remakes a run for their money is The Boys, now made more political, outrageously gory, and exhilarating all at the same time with a fourth season coming. It has been one of Amazon’s most popular originals since the first season launched in 2019.

We can expect for The Boys Season 4 to become an even bigger hit with Homelander now ready to set the world on fire. Billy Butcher, his supes allies and the rest of The Boys, of course, will rather die before they let Homelander, who only gets more vicious by the day, seize global power and control.

Just like the first three seasons, The Boys Season 4 will also screen exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Just like every instalment, the fourth season will also consist of eight episodes.

The Boys Season 4 episodes only stream on Prime Video, a streaming service that’s part of the larger Amazon Prime. New customers can test run the service for 30 days free. After that, the monthly plan is $9.99/month, or save a little with the annual plan at $79.

In addition to offering third-party content, Amazon Prime is no stranger to big streaming productions with originals like Fallout, The Rings of Power, Citadel and more. As of this writing, Prime has only one streaming tier which allows up to three concurrent streaming and 4K video quality on selected titles.

Since there’s only one option, all these features are included in the $9.99 monthly plan. With other streamers, users are required to subscribe to a premium plan to get all the best stuff. So despite the recent price increase, this still makes Prime Video one of the cheapest services in Australia.

The Boys Season 3 finale was even more twisted and sort of hopeless at the same time. Homelander was worse than ever and with Butcher losing Ryan’s trust, the boy supe is now seemingly siding with his psychopathic biological father, something that the late Becca (Butcher’s wife and Ryan’s mom) spent most of her tragic life trying to avoid.

The end of the third season also saw The Boys in shambles after that historic fight at the Seven tower where they all barely made it out alive. The mission to kill Homelander with the help of Soldier Boy failed miserably when Ryan came into the picture and attempted to save his father.

Soldier Boy ready to kill anyone, including a kid, just so he could finish the job just made him even worse, leading Butcher and his team to fight him instead. And so, despite all the efforts of Team Good Guys, Homelander came out alive and even more awful.

But that twisted ending where Homelander publicly murdered someone and still got cheers from his supporters and Ryan’s worrisome look of admiration, well that only makes The Boys’ biggest villain realise one thing – he can kill anyone who stands in his way and still somehow be applauded for it.

With this new wicked and alerting reality, Homelander will be even more unstoppable in the new season as he attempts to seize control by using Victoria Neuman’s political power. Other superheroes as twisted as he is will also join in on the catastrophe, ready to unleash their fullest wrath on every opposition.

Butcher is also at his lowest, having only months to live. His group is in disarray due to his continuous deceit, which only makes their enemies grow stronger and with a penchant for evil that’s beyond shocking. Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office, a part of Homelander’s evil and ambitious plan to attain absolute power. But if there’s anyone who could possibly stop them, it’s really Butcher and his sometime questionable but effective schemes.

He just needs to round up the team once again and reignite their one, true purpose. Ryan, whose powers are still developing, also has the potential to be just as powerful as his father, maybe even more. If only Butcher could get through to him and remind him of his inherently good nature.

New characters will also be introduced in season 4, including new supes Firecracker (Valorie Curry), likely to be Starlight’s replacement in The Seven, and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). Black Noir also appears in the season 4 trailer, but knowing what really happened to Black Noir in The Boys Season 3, we can assume that this is isn’t really him. Gen V’s Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) also joins the season 4 cast.

You can watch the trailer for the new season of The Boys below.

Most of The Boys original cast members return for the fourth season. Karl Urban and Antony Starr have been particularly lauded for their performances as Billy Butcher and Homelander, respectively.

Of course, The Boys won’t be as much fun without Mother’s Milk, Frenchie, Kimiko, Hughie, Starlight, and the rest of the gang, both humans and supes. However, it’s unknown if Dominique McElligott will return as Queen Maeve, although there’s a lot of new characters that will be introduced in the new season, including a couple of supes from the spin-off series, Gen V.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Rosemarie DeWitt, Rob Benedict and Elliot Knight have also been cast in supporting roles. Check out The Boys Season 4 cast below.

The dark superhero series has a total of four seasons with the new season set to premiere from June 13, 2024, almost two years after the The Boys Season 3 finale aired last July 2022.

The past seasons not only enjoyed wide viewership, but also critical success. Its storytelling, which combines social commentary and dark humour, is brilliantly laid out by showrunner Eric Kripke. All seasons are exclusive to Amazon Prime Video.
