How to watch Magpie Murders in Australia

Anthony Horowitz’s novel, “Magpie Murders”, has been adapted for TV, bringing character Susan Ryeland and the murder mystery she gets entangled in straight to your screens.

Ryeland is a book editor who receives renowned mystery author Alan Conway’s latest novel, Magpie Murders, only to discover that the final chapters are lost. In the world of whoddunit, a mystery crime without an ending equates to a bad hangover that viciously lingers for a long time. As for Ryeland, “it won’t even be worth the paper it’s not printed on!”, she said.

When book editor Susan Ryeland receives an unfinished manuscript from her best-selling crime author, Alan Conway, who also dies shortly after, she finds herself at the centre of a mysterious crime as she tries to locate the book’s missing chapters.

Her search leads to more clues that could unveil the mystery behind Conway’s death. The investigation she starts on her own ultimately uncovers sinister secrets that are bound to change her life forever in ways she’ll never see coming.

In Conway’s supposedly final novel, the characters are based on the people he knew with the cast portraying multiple characters in different time periods (1950s and contemporary Britain).

With this, viewers also get to see the protagonist in Conway’s fictional novels, detective Atticus Pünd. A 1950s detective, he solves even the toughest of crimes despite his complexities and his reputation for being difficult to work with.

When Ryeland becomes convinced that the book’s plot may have been based on true events, causing Conway’s murder, she becomes more adamant to get to the bottom of the crime mystery.

The new six-part drama series star Lesley Manville as Susan Ryeland and Tim McMullan as Atticus Pünd. Other cast members are Conleth Hill as Alan Conway, Ian Lloyd Anderson as Brent, Jude Hill as Young Sam, Karen Westwood as Mary, Matthew Beard as Fraser, Daniel Mays as Chubb, Pippa Haywood as Claire, and Michael Maloney as Charles.
