Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Season 11: Release date and where to watch in Australia

Published On

July 31, 2024

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is back with a new season, which means more finger pointing at those who fail in their roles as public figures. This satirical news show takes a no-holds-barred approach to world politics, along with unearthing social scandals closer to home in the USA.

Recent world events are still the subject of the latest season, covering today’s pressing political, social, cultural issues, and other difficult topics that the show doesn’t shy itself away from.

Here in Australia, new episodes of the show will premiere this month. Find out how using this guide.

The popular late-night show returns for season 11 available to watch on BINGE, as well as on Foxtel and Foxtel Now. As of this writing, only the streaming services mentioned have the licensing rights to broadcast the show in Australia.

If you’re a Foxtel or Foxtel Now subscriber, you can stream new episodes on FOX8.

The show is best known for roasting famous personalities and even books, like Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code, which received a rollercoaster of bad reviews more than a decade after its release. If you want more of that, the news satire’s eleventh season premieres on Foxtel via FOX8.

In Australia, FOX8 is available via Foxtel. The good news is that Foxtel offers the basic Foxtel Plus bundle, which already includes FOX8, allowing you to access over 60 channels of drama, lifestyle, kids, docos, news, reality and more.

Another great alternative for streaming Last Week Tonight Season 11 is Foxtel Now. Even easier for new customers, they have ongoing offers to access everything on its platform with monthly discounts, plus a free 10-day trial for those signing up for the first time.

The news satire program is back for a brand new season to poke fun at everything under the sun and discuss all the crazy current affairs happening in the US and around the world with his signature wry perspective. With the upcoming election year, you can expect a full-blown commentary in the US voting system, again.

In every season, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver debunks myths and calls out politicians. Even more fun is how the show selects a theme to scrutinise and treat it like it’s a complex issue, only to delve into it through satire and comically outrageous audacity.

With the trailer for the new season already out, we’re teased about season 11 being as goofy and outrageous as ever. From the looks of things, we know that the show’s tradition to look at a difficult subject head-on while incorporating humour, irony, and insightful wit still remains.

Last Week Tonight is a staple at the Emmys for this reason, winning the Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series several times already. The show has received 61 Emmy nominations thus far, winning 28.

Presented by comedian John Oliver (Mock The Week) alongside David Kaye (Duck Tales), and written by Tim Carvell (The Daily Show), it’s one of the highest-rated news satires on TV. Even better, Last Week Tonight is known for featuring celebrities like George Clooney, Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, and Leslie Jones. HBO has yet to announce the prominent Hollywood figures who will appear in the new season.

The fun ruckus continues with the late-night show returning for season 11. Check out the trailer below.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver premiered in 2014 with 11 seasons released since then. The latest season 11 is just about to premiere this February.

It’s worth noting that HBO renewed the TV show for three additional seasons in late 2023, which means that the series will be airing until 2026.
