Obi-Wan Kenobi series

The iconic Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, finally returned to our screens with Disney Plus launching the series back in May 2022. Ewan McGregor reprises his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and joining him are Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, also reprising their roles from the prequel trilogy.

Set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, this marks Christensen’s return in the role of Darth Vader. With all the major characters returning to continue Obi-Wan’s story, the Obi Wan Kenobi series is one of Disney Plus’ biggest shows this year. Find out how to watch episodes of the series in this guide.

What’s in this Guide?

With Disney Plus creating spin-off shows and movies featuring popular Marvel or Star Wars characters, a Star Wars story focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi is just a must-do. Expanding the Star Wars universe by continuing Obi-Wan’s storyline was initially announced as a movie before being turned into a series. Finally, at Disney’s D23 event, an Obi-Wan Kenobi-centred Disney Plus series was announced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and actor Ewan McGregor.

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins ten years after the tragic and galaxy-altering events in Revenge of the Sith. The former Jedi is living in exile on the planet Tatooine while watching over Luke Skywalker. He’s still reeling over the loss of his loved ones and the Jedi Order, even more haunted by the downfall of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker. With Anakin already reaching the full circle of his transformation into the iconic villain, Darth Vader, it will be very interesting to see how the two will reunite in the upcoming show.

There was much secrecy involved while the series was being developed, which is why there’s very little information with regards plot details and new characters. With the series out already and available for on demand streaming, fans can finally watch every episode anytime.

Executive producers for Obi-Wan Kenobi are Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold. The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow also directed all episodes of the series.

How many episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi?

The show consists of six episodes. After years of development to create a series that centres on the legendary Star Wars character, Obi-Wan Kenobi finally premiered on streaming TV with two episodes on Friday, 27th May 2022, coinciding with Star Wars Celebration. A Disney Plus exclusive, remaining episodes streamed weekly after the Obi-Wan Kenobi series release date of the first 2 episodes. The show concluded on 22nd June 2022.

The Obi-Wan series has been announced as a miniseries for Disney Plus, which means that future seasons are unlikely, at least for now. For reference, Star Wars characters like The Mandalorian and Boba Fett have their own shows as well, with the former renewed for season 3.

A major character in the Star Wars films, Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Disney Plus exclusive to debut on the service on 27th May. The events in the series are the continuation of the events in the prequel films with a time jump of 10 years. The show’s 10-year jump from the last prequel movie puts Obi-Wan’s story just right in the Star Wars timeline. And it’s only right to expect that his greatest adversary in this spin-off is none other than Darth Vader.
