Back at the Northumberland and City Police, Vera and Joe, who just returned as a DI, investigate the death of a young man following a car collision. She surmises the death isn’t an accident and begins to piece together crucial details to find his killer.

Another haunting mystery to solve for the brilliant detective was the case of a sickly girl found in the middle of nowhere. As she searches for clues to help reveal the girl’s identity, she soon faces shocking details about who the girl really is and who left her in such a weakened state.
