The success of Yellowstone and its spin-offs 1883 and 1923 has contributed to the resurgence of neo-Western shows and one would initially think that Outer Range falls into the same genre.

The Amazon original series follows a rancher who’s fighting tooth and nail to protect his land and family. But upon discovering a mysterious black void in one of his pastures, it’s clear that the Josh Brolin-starrer relies more on its sci-fi mystery elements than its Western backdrop.

Back for a new season after a long hiatus, find out how to watch Outer Range Season 2 in Australia.

Watch Outer Range Season 2 on Prime Video

The brand new season of Outer Range only streams on Prime Video, a streaming service that’s part of the larger Amazon Prime. New customers can test run the service for 30 days free. After that, the monthly plan is $9.99/month, or save a little with the annual plan at $79.

In addition to offering third-party content, Amazon Prime is no stranger to big streaming productions with originals like The Rings of Power, Citadel, The Boys, and more. As of this writing, Prime has only one streaming tier which allows up to three concurrent streaming and 4K video quality on selected titles.

Since there’s only one option, all these features are included in the $9.99 monthly plan. With other streamers, users are required to subscribe to a premium plan to get all the best stuff. So despite the recent price increase, this still makes Prime Video one of the cheapest services in Australia.

What is the plot of Outer Range

An intriguing mash-up of genres, Outer Range begins as a family drama focusing on Royal Abbott (Brolin) and his family, who are entangled in a murder mystery when the Tillersons, a rival family who’s after their land, accuses them of murder. Adding another puzzle into the mix is the disappearance of Rebecca, Abbott’s daughter in law.

But as pieces of the puzzle start to come together and the mysteries unravel, we eventually see that Outer Range is only a Western drama on the surface. Surprisingly hiding behind its misleading facade is a variety of science fiction elements that include time travel.

The mystery starts when the Abbott family finds a black void in a pasture with no idea of how and why it got there. The emergence of the mysterious hole also coincides with the arrival of a drifter named Autumn (Imogen Poots), a strange woman possessing a seemingly eerie connection with the ranch.

The appearance of the otherworldly void and Autumn camping out on Abbott’s land only spawn a series of unexplainable events that turn the Abbott family’s world upside down, somehow literally.

In season 2, Outer Range further explores the mysteries of the void, all while delving into the consequences of the harrowing events that took place in the prior season. We’ll find out more of what the new season has in store for us when the show returns in May.

Outer Range is created by Brian Watkins who also executive produced the series alongside Brolin, Brad Pitt, Amy Seimetz, Zev Borow, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Heather Rae, Brian Watkins, Robin Sweet, Lawrence Trilling, and Tony Krantz.
