Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a 2005 action comedy that’s charming as it is explosive. To sort of celebrate its nearly two-decade milestone, Amazon Studios is bringing back the film as a series of the same name.

The Mr. and Mrs. Smith TV series follows John (Donald Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine), two spies who enter a marriage with no emotional attachments (at first), in order to embark on a life of espionage and non-stop danger, together.

What’s in this Guide?

With Amazon Studios spearheading the production, Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s TV adaptation will premiere exclusively on Prime Video.

Two spies at the top of their games have been awarded the chance to level up in the cutthroat world of espionage, all while enjoying its luxurious perks.

But there’s a catch – get married and blend in using their new names. Using their fake marital bliss as a facade, they get things done as secret agents working for a clandestine organisation.

Starting out great thanks to their unrivalled spying and survival skills, things get complicated for the duo when they start to develop feelings for each other, realising they need each other more than they can admit.

For both John and Jane, this is something that’s really, really harrowing to deal with. Because regardless of the explosions, car chases, and shoot-outs, talking about their feelings is just, ugh.

Donald Glover, who also stars as John Smith, created the series alongside Francesca Sloane and based on the original film written by Simon Kinberg. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was initially announced to play Jane Smith, but the Fleabag actress dropped out due to “creative differences”.

Check out the official railer right here.

The cast also features an ensemble cast that includes the following actors:

  • Donald Glover as John Smith
  • Maya Erskine as Jane Smith
  • Parker Posey
  • Wagner Moura
  • Michaela Coel
  • John Turturro
  • Paul Dano
  • Alexander Skarsgård
  • Eiza González
