How to watch The Wheel of Time in Australia

The Wheel of Time, a series of high fantasy novels by Robert Jordan, was adapted for television with Amazon Studios producing. It premiered at the end of 2021 with Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, I Care a Lot) playing the lead Moiraine Damodred, a member of Aes Sedai, a powerful ancient organisation of women who can channel an elemental force called the One Power. After its successful debut, the series was renewed for a second season, which fans in Australia can finally watch in September.

Ahead of The Wheel of Time Season 2 release date, here’s everything you need to know about the new season and where you can watch the latest and previous episodes on streaming TV

Moiraine, an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah is searching for the Dragon Reborn, prophesied to either save or destroy humanity. Joining in her initial quest to save the world is her Warder Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney). Their search takes them to the Two Rivers, arriving just in time when the village is being attacked by Trollocs, followers of the Dark One. An ancient evil and a dark force to be reckoned with, Moiraine hopes to defeat the Dark One with the Dragon’s reincarnation.

After the attack, Moiraine singled out young villagers she suspects of being the Dragon Reborn: Rand al’Thor, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon, and Egwene al’Vere. She plans to take them to the White Tower, the centre of the Aes Sedai. After an arduous journey and unimaginable dangers, Moiraine, Loial, Lan, alongside Two Rivers villagers, travel to the Eye of the World to confront the Dark One.

In The Wheel of Time Season 2, despite the Dark One appearing to be defeated in the first season finale, Lan warns that the battle is far from over. Forces of evil are bound to strike again when the time is right. We then see several ships in the west and aboard them are “channellers”, more formidable in their ability to wield power.

Their arrival is bound to shake up the entire The Wheel of Time plot and the characters we’ve already met. Another important thing to note for Season 2 is that some of its events and character developments will be lifted from books two and three (The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn ) of Robert Jordan’s fantasy saga. With the stage already set, fans can expect the series to be more of a grand spectacle when it returns this September, as teased by showrunner Rafe Judkins at New York Comic Con.

It’s also worth noting that Barney Harris, who played Mat Cauthon in the first season, is not returning for Season 2. The role of Mat has been recast with Dónal Finn (The Witcher, Cursed) taking over. Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander) has also joined as Elayne Trakand, a powerful channeler of the Green Ajah, and Ayoola Smart (Killing Eve) has joined as Aviendha, a Maiden of the Spear from Aiel.
