Described as a workplace thriller, Rules of the Game delves into the insidious office culture that allows sexual politics and the harrowing misconduct it perpetuates, leaving a trail of silenced victims in its wake.

In this 2022 series, a new recruit discovers that the company that hired her as its new HR director is hiding dark secrets under its shiny facade. Resolved to eliminate the toxic culture that has been plaguing the workplace and its employees, she begins investigating historic cases.

What’s in this Guide?

The thriller initially premiered on Foxtel and BINGE last 10 April 2022. It later became available for streaming on Acorn TV.

As of this writing, Rules of the Game is no longer available on BINGE, but you can still stream episodes on Foxtel and Foxtel Now via BBC First.

Another streaming option this time is BritBox, which has been confirmed to stream all four episodes.

Writer Ruth Fowler creates this engrossing story about the dark secrets haunting a seemingly typical workplace that’s actually laced with multiple cases of misconducts and, ultimately, murders.

In Australia, Rules of the Game first premiered on 10 April 2022 on Foxtel and BINGE (it’s no longer on BINGE), ending on 1 May 2022 after four episodes.

About two years later, the series makes its debut on BritBox, which streams the entire show from 22 February 2024.

When new HR director Maya Benshaw joins a family-run sportswear company in the North West, her goal in mind is to change the work culture for the better. She, however, finds out the hard way that not everyone is on board.

Determined and persistent, she shakes up the workplace’s lad culture and by doing so, realises the gravity of the company’s toxic work culture. With Maya digging deeper, dark secrets begin to unravel, including that of a young female employee who died mysteriously after attending a company party years ago.

Clashing with Maya from their very first meeting is chief operating officer Sam Thompson. But when Sam discovers a dead body in the office’s foyer, she is forced to confront the company’s shady past. Pretty soon, both she and Maya start asking questions about the employee’s death.

When Maya discovers evidence that can ruin the business, Sam struggles to deal with the facts head-on. Faced with her own morals and her guilt for not doing anything before, Sam must decide whether she should cower in oblivion or fight and pick up where Maya left off.
