Idris Elba starred as DCI John Luther in this acclaimed BBC thriller that recently had its film continuation, Luther: The Fallen Sun. The series, which aired for five seasons, follows the title role in his investigations of gruesome crimes. Brilliant and dedicated, his unwavering dedication in the cases he works on takes its toll, becoming consumed by the darkness of the crimes that comprise his daily life. As a result, Luther turns more obsessive and violent at times, his own terrible demons making him just as dangerous as the monsters he hunts.

John Luther is a Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) working for the Serious Crime Unit. Tasked to solve a double homicide case, he meets psychopath Alice Morgan, who he’s unable to arrest due to lack of evidence. Morgan becomes infatuated with him, which begins their complex relationship. Luther is created by Neil Cross, who also wrote the 2023 movie Luther: The Fallen Sun. For his portrayal of the tormented detective in the series, Idris Elba was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor at the Emmys four times.
