Just days before the coronation of King Charles III on 6 May, Paramount+ launched the documentary King Charles: The Boy Who Walked Alone. The 90-minute docuseries offers audiences an in-depth look at the new monarch’s private life, sharing glimpses of his younger years through interviews with former girlfriends and schoolmates, his relationship with the late Princess Diana, and the ongoing rift between him and Prince Harry.

What’s in this Guide?

The new documentary about King Charles’ life features exclusive interviews with former friends and girlfriends, schoolmates, and his private employees, as well as never-before-seen photos and personal letters, in an attempt to unveil the real man behind the King’s often stoic disposition.

The title comes from Charles’ boarding schoolmate Johnny Stonborough, who says the new King of England was “the boy who walked alone” because he was bullied at school and the weight of his role as the future king led to an insufferable isolation.

In addition to Stonborough, India Hicks, King Charles’ goddaughter; Mervyn Wycherley, former head chef to the Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer; Graham Laurie, former royal pilot; and former girlfriends Janet Jenkins and Jane Ward, are featured in the film to share first-hand stories about King Charles’s life.

From the producer of Diana: The Truth Behind the Scandal, Blink Films, and Paramount Global’s See It Now Studio, the documentary is a rare insight into the British monarchy and the new king who must hold it together.
