The Chicago franchise continues this year with season 14, but to those who haven’t seen the Chicago Fire Season 13, it’s finally getting its FTA premiere this month.

The show has always been a big hit with Aussie TV fans, and the action-packed season 13 should be no different with new faces and new heroic saves to feature.

Find out how to watch Chicago Fire Season 13 in Australia, and when we can expect season 14 to premiere via local streaming services.

While season 13 premiered on Foxtel and Foxtel Now last year, episodes eventually leave these platforms due to licensing rights expiring. Fortunately, these episodes also tend to premiere on free to air, which is exactly the case for Chicago Fire’s 13th season. In fact, you can watch (or rewatch) episodes from season 13 starting Wednesday, 10 September at 11 pm on Seven, also available for catch up on 7plus.

Chicago Fire is the first instalment of the Chicago franchise, followed by Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and the short-lived Chicago Justice. The show follows the life of Chicago Fire Department firefighters, rescuers, and paramedics in the fictitious Chicago Firehouse 51, which is home to Engine Company 51, Truck Company 81, Rescue Squad Company 3, Battalion 25, and Ambulance 61.

So, what’s next for the firefighters of Firehouse 51? While the previous Chicago Fire Season 12 featured the return of Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) after his absence in Chicago Fire Season 11, the team just lost another beloved member with Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) exiting the show after 12 seasons, although it would seem he’s still returning as a recurring character.

Boden’s departure was a result of his winning the position for Chief Wallace Boden, which entails him leaving his crew. If Boden’s words are anything to go by, Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) is next in line to replace the former Battalion chief, having passed the Battalion chief exam and becoming a captain.

But with Dermot Mulroney joining the main cast in the new season, Herrmann’s time has yet to come. It’s been confirmed last July that Mulroney will be playing the role of Chief Dom Pascal, Boden’s replacement. Little is known about Firehouse 51’s new chief; we’ll know soon enough with Chicago Fire Season 13 landing on our TV screens tonight!

The cast of Chicago Fire has changed throughout its run with the notable departure of lead actor Jesse Spencer in Season 10, although he’s had guest appearances afterwards.

Meanwhile, Taylor Kinney’s Lieutenant Kelly Severide remains as the show’s primary protagonist. Kinney has also bagged several People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Dramatic TV Actor.

Daniel Kyri became a regular cast member starting Chicago Fire Season 9, playing Firefighter Candidate Darren Ritter.

Eamonn Walker’s Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden, on the other hand, is leaving the regular crew but will return as a recurring character. Dermot Mulroney’s Chief Dom Pascal is set to replace him as Firehouse 51’s new chief.

Kara Killmer, who starred as Paramedic Sylvie Brett from Chicago Fire Season 3, left the show after Chicago Fire Season 12, and so did Alberto Rosende, who played Firefighter Candidate Blake Gallo from Chicago Fire Season 8.

Chicago Fire cast

So, how many seasons of Chicago Fire are there? The TV series has been delivering addictive action and drama since 2012 with a total of 14 seasons.

The latest Chicago Fire Season 14 is set to premiere in October 2025, but it’s still unclear whether the schedule will be the same in Australia.

For more options, selected previous seasons can be streamed on other streaming services like BINGE and Prime Video, as well as on free to air on 7plus. Check them out below.
