Based on the popular DC comics character, Blue Beetle’s Australian premiere is just around the corner. Enjoying positive reviews during initial release, DC’s new live-action film about the superhero Blue Beetle is a family-centred adventure that’s bolstered by the charming performance of lead star Xolo Maridueña and its hearty humour. Here’s everything to know about the film, including plot, release date, cast, and more.

What’s in this Guide?

Blue Beetle movie plot

This live-action adaptation explores the Jaime Reyes version of the character, which also serves as the comic character’s debut on the silver screen. It follows Jaime as a newly college graduate who returns home full of aspirations for his future, that is until he learns that his family is going to lose their home soon.

The daunting challenge of finding his place in this world, while also finding a way to save his family from eviction leads him to Kord Industries CEO Victoria Kord. Next thing he knew, he’s entrusted to hold on to an ancient alien artifact known as the Scarab. This is where Jaime’s adventures begin.

When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to serve as its symbiotic host, the armour’s extraordinary and unpredictable powers become his to use and control, changing the course of his life and that of his family as he becomes the superhero we now know as the Blue Beetle.

Blue Beetle comes from Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, and The Safran Company with director Angel Manuel Soto at the helm. The superhero movie is the 14th instalment of the DC Extended Universe. It was initially intended to debut on HBO Max, but Soto’s version of the characters and his live action adventures were decided to be too enjoyable to not get a wider release.

Will the Blue Beetle movie be available on streaming?

For streaming, Australia has plenty of options to watch movies online. But since the film is just about to debut in September, it may take a while for it to drop on a streamer. It will later become available via paid subscriptions. Following in the footsteps of other DC and Warner Bros. releases, the movie is likely to debut on streaming TV via Foxtel (including Foxtel Now) and BINGE.
