Jamie McGuire’s 2011 novel Beautiful Disaster has been adapted for the big screen with Dylan Sprouse (The Suite Life on Deck) and Virginia Gardner (Fall) playing lead roles Travis Maddox and Abby Abernathy, respectively. A New York Times bestselling phenomenon, Beautiful Disaster follows a good girl drawn to a bad boy with a penchant for trouble. With Travis’ notorious temper and Abby’s dark past, their budding romance faces inevitable complexities before it even has the chance to thrive.

Confirmed for an August premiere, here’s everything to know about the streaming TV debut of the Beautiful Disaster movie in Australia, including release date, cast, and where to watch it.

The romantic drama follows college freshman Abby Abernathy as she tries to renew her social circle and focus on her academic life. Her supposedly straightforward plans are disrupted when she meets ultimate college campus charmer Travis Maddox, who finds Abby’s indifference to his charm intriguing.

As for Abby, Travis is a good example of someone she needs to avoid at all costs. He spends his nights fighting in underground boxing matches and loathes having to commit to serious relationships.

Unfazed by Abby’s resistance to his charm, he goes all in with a bet: if he loses his next fight, he must remain sex-free for a month. If he wins, she must live with him for the same amount of time.

In a twist of fate, Travis wins, prompting Abby to start packing. As they begin living together, their attraction for one another only gets deeper. However, just as they’re starting to realise they belong together, Abby’s dark past emerges, threatening their potential romance before it even begins.

Beautiful Disaster is directed by Roger Kumble from a screenplay by Kumble and novel author Jamie McGuire herself. Warner Bros. optioned the movie rights for the book but the project never moved forward, leading Voltage Pictures to option the film rights. Production finally started in 2021 with Dylan Sprouse, Rob Estes, and Virginia Gardner securing starring roles.
