How to watch NRL matches live and free
The 2025 NRL season is split between services that require a subscription and free-to-air TV. Each game of this year’s premiership season (except for the Grand Final) will be screened live with no ads on the Fox League channel.

Fortunately, both Foxtel Now and Kayo Sports currently have free trials. This means you can stream NRL live and free online using one of these services, provided you’re a new customer.
You can also watch selected NRL matches live on free-to-air with the 9 Network, but ads will be broadcast during live play, and could interfere with the game’s most pivotal moments. Likewise, Channel Nine will only broadcast up to four NRL games live each round, with no Saturday matches until the 24th round.

Watch NRL for free on Channel 9
Terrestrial provider Network Nine have broadcasting rights to televise NRL games on free-to-air TV in Australia.
You can watch the following NRL games and shows for free on Channel 9:
- Up to four live NRL games per week.
- NRL Finals series games
- The NRL Grand Final (exclusive to Channel 9)
- 100% Footy
- Sunday Footy Show
Generally, you can watch NRL matches on Thursday and Friday night, Sunday afternoon, and on Mondays or public holidays. And starting from round 24, Channel 9 will also show one Saturday match live.
These games are available live on Channel 9, or you can stream NRL on demand with 9Now. The NRL streaming rights for the matches not being televised live on Nine belong exclusively to Foxtel and Kayo.
In addition to NRL live games each round, Network Nine has other content to keep Rugby League fans updated. The two most popular NRL shows on Nine are 100% Footy, where Phil Gould, Paul Gallen and James Bracey debate the biggest NRL topics, and the Sunday Footy Show, which provides a round-up of all the NRL games on TV that week.
The NRL games on Channel 9 and 9Now are great for fans who don’t follow any specific team or only watch the matches during the finals series. But for passionate NRL viewers, the reduced schedule, programming limitations, and ad breaks are not ideal.
