Essendon AFL Live Streaming and Free to Air TV Guide

Essendon Football Club

The Essendon Football Club, otherwise known as the Bombers, are one of football’s oldest teams having been established in 1872. They were one of the core 5 teams that made up the VFA and then later the VFL. They have won 16 premierships in total, making them one of the AFL’s most successful sides, but haven’t seen a grand final since 2001. In the time since, Essendon have been embroiled in scandals, but are slowly rebuilding from that reputation. While 2021 may not be the season of the Bombers, it is showing a lot of potential for what is to come.

With the team’s huge legacy of greats, the current side of Dons players have big shoes to fill in past greats like Matthew Lloyd, Jobe Watson and James Hird (controversy aside). There are big names in the team currently with the likes of superstar captain Dyson Heppell, Darcy Parish, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Dylan Shiel and Irving Mosquito. Essendon has a lot to prove, but the sum of their parts are an incredible tool if used correctly.

2021 Essendon Preview

Former Richmond defence coach, Ben Rutten, is brand new to coaching the team and has some serious potential. It’s looking like he could lead the club to their first AFL final series since 2004. The club has not been a favourite club for some time but with Rutten’s elite knowledge from past ventures showing moderate success with the limits of the 2020 COVID-19 season, he could very well push the team further without such restrictions.

Currently sitting in the middle of AFL ladder, Essendon are still taking some brutal defeats. Their losses currently come from finals contenders like Sydney, Brisbane and reigning premiers Richmond. With their upcoming fixtures, the Dons have a chance to try and finish the 2021 season on a high note.

The Dons’ hope can be owed to their roster of elites with powerful players like Dyson Heppell and Darcy Parish creating waves. Now that the Bombers are seeing their potential, it’s exciting to think that the premiership is a real possibility in the next few years.
