Brisbane Lions Free Air and 2021 AFL Live Online TV Fixtures

Brisbane Lions

The Brisbane Lions, representing the majority of Queensland’s footy fans, have had unbelievable back-to-back seasons. Placing second on the AFL ladder two years in a row, they narrowly missed the flag in both efforts. The former dynasty once claimed three consecutive premierships and now the kings of the jungle are hungry for more.

With Lions midfielder Lachie Neale taking home 2020’s Brownlow Medal, it is clear that the Gabba’s pride aren’t here to play games. Despite having one of the youngest rosters in the competition, the experience of coach Chris Fagan and the senior leadership team are ensuring that youth is not being wasted on the Brisbane young. Step into the Lion’s den and don’t miss another moment thanks to the streaming options featured below.

2021 Brisbane Lions Preview

One of the AFL’s youngest teams, the Lions became the first merger when the Fitzroy Football Club and the Brisbane Bears joined forces in 1996. It took the club less than five years to dominate the league, competing in four consecutive Grand Finals between 2001 to 2004. The Gabba has served as an icon factory with countless All-Australian players and numerous Brownlow Medallists rising from its ranks.

The Lions remained quiet with a few years of slumber but are back up on their feet thanks to the recruitment of former Hawthorne Hawks assistant coach Chris Fagan. Fagan played a key role in the Hawks’ 2008 premiership as well as the clubs threepeat win between 2013-2015. The team have effectively blended young talent with senior experience by showcasing AFL greats Mitch Robinson, Daniel Rich and Joe Daniher.

Brisbane Lions TV Rights and 2021 Broadcast Guide

Fortunately, there are several options for watching the Brisbane Lions live in Australia, including the Seven Network, Foxtel, Foxtel from Telstra and Kayo Sports. Seven is the official AFL free to air broadcaster and will show only selected Brisbane Lions matches live during the 2021 season across Seven and 7mate. Seven’s TV coverage is headed by Hamish McLachlan, Brian Taylor and James Brayshaw, alongside some new recruits in the shape of retired stars Luke Hodge and Jobe Watson, and the returning Daisy Pearce. Seven also offers a range of programming dedicated to AFL such as The Front Bar, Talking Footy and Armchair Experts.

For comparison and as shown in the TV schedule below, Foxtel, Foxtel from Telstra, and Kayo Sports will televise all 22 Brisbane Lions games during the 2020 AFL season. That’s every Lions match before the finals shown live on their dedicated Fox Footy channel.

As well as these live matches and the option to watch replays at a later time, Foxtel, Foxtel from Telstra and Kayo Sports will also have a wide range of AFL programming that includes AFL 360, AFL Tonight and a new look Bounce. There will also be some familiar faces in the studio this season with live games fronted by Eddie McGuire and Sarah Jones. Match commentary will be made up of a team of former stars including Ben Dixon, Gerard Healy and Dermott Brereton.

Watch AFL on your favourite Device

Here are some of the best devices to use when streaming sport at home or on the move.

Apple TV

For years, Apple TV devices have been an ideal instant streaming solution that does it all. There are two models available – Apple TV HD handles video up to 1080p, while Apple TV 4K adds full support for 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision. Kayo Sports is great on Apple TV, with flawless 4-way Split View.

Google Chromecast

A hugely popular low-cost streaming solution, Google’s Chromecast got a make-over in 2020, and now comes in two very different flavours. The basic Chromecast is still available, but the newer Google TV version (which replaces the Ultra) adds a remote control and an on-screen interface.

Telstra TV

Now in its third generation and boasting better performance than ever, Telstra TV is a great choice for those who want to plug in and get streaming with no hassles. It has a friendly user interface and all the apps you need to get streaming, including full support for Kayo and Foxtel.

Foxtel Now Box

Foxtel’s own streaming box is an Android TV device that brings the Foxtel Now experience front and centre in its user interface – making it a natural choice if your preferred way of streaming sports is via the live channels that Foxtel Now offers, with on-demand streaming and live free-to-air channels as well.

Amazon Fire TV Stick

This easy alternative comes in three flavours – a budget Lite model, the standard one, and a 4K version. All of them are simple “plug in and go” stick-shaped devices that work similarly to Google’s newest Chromecast, except these use Amazon’s custom user interface and support Alexa voice control.

Nvidia Shield TV

A powerful Android TV streaming device from one of the world’s leading PC graphics companies comes in the form of a small “tube” with connections at either end, along with a slim backlit remote control. It can easily deal with every streaming app under the sun, including Kayo and Foxtel.
