Joker 2, officially titled “Joker: Folie à Deux”, brings back Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck with Lady Gaga joining as Harley Quinn.

Joker: Folie à Deux is the sequel to Todd Phillips 2019 film “Joker”, reuniting the director with Phoenix and Zazie Beetz five years after the first movie’s sensational success. Joker’s follow-up movie centres around Fleck and his trial while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital, leading him to meet Quinn and starting a dangerous romance with another notorious DC character.

Arriving in Australian cinemas today, here’s everything to know about Joker 2.

Joker: Folie à Deux  premieres in Australia on Thursday, 3 October.

With Warner Bros. Pictures distributing the film, we can expect for the film to land on BINGE, Foxtel, and Foxtel Now after its theatrical run. It’s supposed to follow in the footsteps of other latest Warner Bros. releases including, Barbie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Wonka, and more.

It is, however, worth noting that new movies are released digitally via pay per view (e.g., Apple TV, Google Play, Fetch, Prime Video Store, and Microsoft) first prior to arriving on subscription streaming.

Where is the first movie Joker streaming in Australia?

The first film, Joker (2019), is currently available to stream on Prime Video, Netflix, and Stan. Of the three options, only Amazon Prime offers a free trial lasting 30 days.

If you don’t have a subscription to any of these services, you can rent or buy Joker for streaming in Australia via Apple TV Store, Prime Video Store, Google TV or YouTube.

After the events of the first film, which saw the deaths of late-night talk show host Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro) and Bruce Wayne’s parents, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) was sent to the Arkham State Hospital where he awaits his very public trial.

He struggles with his dual identity — one as a failed comedian with a harrowing past, making him a victim of social injustice, and another as Joker, Gotham’s nihilistic criminal glorified for his crimes, for which his supporters translate to acts of rebellion and anarchy.

At the hospital, he meets the love of his life Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga), who becomes obsessed with him. Sharing the same twisted penchant for violence, she pushes him to embrace his identity as the Joker.

Their romance however turns lethal, adding a deeper level of danger in the film that’s unique compared with how their relationship was portrayed in previous versions.

Joker: Folie à Deux is directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. Phillips also produced the Joker sequel with Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner.
