Kayo Sports 101

Kayo has raised the bar for sports streaming apps. It’s now among the top choices for watching sporting events. Although it’s a relatively new player in the Australian streaming and entertainment market, it has quickly established itself as the go-to service for local sports fans. Regardless of your favourite sport or team, the options Kayo offers are endless.

Whether you’re contemplating subscribing or have newly subscribed to Kayo Sports, this is a guide for you. Get all the information you need to make an informed decision about signing up and enjoying this sports streaming service.

Kayo is a sports-only streaming service. With a subscription, you get hours of live and on-demand coverage available for most sports and leagues, both local and international. It caters to the needs of any sports fan with the sport giant that is Fox Sports, allowing you to watch your favourite team without having to give up on your normal routine, due to its convenient features. These features include replays and the pop-out video that allows you to watch your favourite sport on the PC while working on other things.

Kayo gives you two subscription options to choose from. A Kayo One plan will cost you $25 a month, while the Basic plan costs $35 a month. Sometimes, new customers get introductory deals to encourage subscription. In both subscriptions, new users get a 7-day trial offer to give you an idea what to expect before you can start paying your monthly fee.

Kayo One gives you more than 15,000 hours of on-demand sport. Kayo Basic, on the other hand, also gives you a similar number of hours with the added convenience of being able to watch on two screens simultaneously. However, remember to cancel your plan if you don’t intend to sign up at the end of the free trial. Otherwise, Kayo Sports will start billing you as soon as the trial period expires. Kayo also offers various promotions of their packages which you can access if you have a valid Kayo voucher.

Upgrading or downgrading your Kayo subscription is straightforward. Log into your account through the Kayo website or app to upgrade your plan to Basic. You’ll get immediate access to the Basic plan, but you’ll also get a pro-rated bill from the day of the upgrade.

As for the downgrade, it doesn’t kick off until your billing month is over. That means the new price will take effect on the 1st day of the next billing month, and you’ll continue to enjoy the benefits of sports streaming until then.

Kayo Sports offer various options to watch your favourite sport. You can watch with a TV, computer, tablet, and smartphone. The compatible streaming devices and TVs include the following:

  • Smart TVs operating on android 7.1 and higher
  • 4th generation or higher Apple TVs
  • Telstra TV boxes
  • Chromecast Ultra models and later versions
  • Samsung smart TVs 2017 and later models

Check out the complete list of streaming devices for Kayo Sports below.

Notably, when using Telstra TV, Samsung smart TV, Chromecast, or non-supported Android TV, you’ll miss out on the SplitView function that allows you to watch different matches simultaneously. If you’re using your computer to watch, you can log in and watch Kayo sports with Firefox, Safari, Edge, and the latest Chrome browsers.

If you prefer more convenience with a mobile sports experience, you can use the iOS app for your Apple devices and the Android app for Android operated phones and tablets. When using your mobile phone, the split-screen option is only two-way, while a tablet allows a four-way split screen.

Kayo Freebies

With Kayo Freebies, Kayo Sports offers free access to a variety of sports, talk shows, and documentary programming. As expected, there is a limited selection of content in Kayo Freebies compared to the full access one gets when subscribing to one of Kayo’s plans, but it’s still great to have free options. Moreover, each month’s offerings are regularly updated to reflect the latest sporting events and talk shows.

The No Spoilers view is a feature that any die-hard sports fan will appreciate. All sports scores and news can be hidden from your Kayo interface if you’re a latecomer and want to watch without knowing how the game will end. Then there’s Kayo Minis, which is a condensed version of a match that runs in minutes rather than hours. Only it’s not your typical highlights clip because Kayo Mini provides you a game with a beginning, middle, and end, with all the important moments rolled into one.

Key Moments, on the other hand, is the feature you’ve got to love the most. Kayo’s content team will be highlighting key moments in the video’s timeline as the action unfolds. The video’s progress bar will let you skip to get to the important moments you missed. This includes moments such as tries scored, goals kicked, or wickets taken before catching up with the rest of the crowd if you join 15 minutes after kick-off.

The Kayo app consumes about 2.5GB in an hour watching standard video definition and 3.5 GB in high definition for a similar period. If you’re using Split View, you can expect those numbers to be multiplied by the number of screens you’re watching.

Kayo Sports app is a game-changer offering a new experience with on-demand sports streaming. It offers convenience as you can replay a game you missed or watch a pop-out video on your PC while going on with your work. Other unique features such as SplitView, No Spoilers, and Key Moments are some of the things you can expect to enjoy as a subscriber. Be sure to check out this in-depth review of Kayo Sports for a detailed overview of all the features Kayo has packed into their apps.
