Best Guide to Getting Connected with Telstra Broadband
Telstra, through innovation, ingenuity and experience, has established themselves as one of Australia’s absolute top-tier telecommunications companies. In a rapidly changing sector, the telco has set the benchmark for quality and value with Telstra used both as an insight and reference by others. Nowhere is this truer than in regard to their internet offerings. These days, Telstra’s broadband offerings have been further improved not only when it comes to speed and coverage but also in terms of security, affordability and even entertainment.
What makes Telstra Broadband unique?
Telstra are unique on the Aussie telecommunications landscape for a number of reasons, but the major one is their sheer size. They’ve got the biggest network and the most experience – which makes their offerings the most comprehensive of any Aussie provider. From being ahead of the game on the NBN network to being one of Australia’s top ADSL providers – as well as embracing mobile broadband and bundling like few others – Telstra is in effect a one-stop shop for your telco needs. Thanks to their size, they offer a great loyalty scheme called Telstra Plus, while their 30-day satisfaction guarantee keeps their customers happy.
For starters, Telstra Broadband comes with the a free Telstra Smart Modem Gen2, which allows subscribers to connect to the telco’s mobile network while they await activation of the fixed-line connection. Even if you’re not moving house, the Smart Modem gives you peace of mind knowing that if your broadband connection experiences an outage, you’ll always have Telstra’s mobile network to back you up automatically.
Sometimes, connection delays can be caused by switching to the NBN, bad weather, network upgrades — whatever the issue is, Telstra’s Smart Modem will automatically connect you to the mobile network using your home data allowance so you don’t miss out on anything important. Luckily, the latest Smart Modem is included for free in Telstra’s 24-month broadband plans.
What NBN Plans does Telstra Offer?
Telstra has been intimately involved in the NBN’s development and rollout since before the term National Broadband Network had even been coined. Taking an NBN fixed line service from Telstra means working with one of Australia’s most experienced and reputable telcos. Telstra has also sought to overcome their reputation as being one of the more expensive options on the market by offering competitive prices while not cutting back on the quality or user experience. Telstra’s NBN plans are available month-to-month or with a contract, while you can choose from either a limited (500GB) or an unlimited data plan.

What ADSL Plans does Telstra Offer?
Telstra’s ADSL plans are unique in that they don’t include the usual trade off that one must make on ADSL. While many providers are trying to phase out ADSL in favour of NBN, Telstra remain committed to their ADSL customers. Their NBN and ADSL plans have the same options – 500GB per month or unlimited data – and they’re both available on either a month-to-month or yearly basis, although there may be some higher up-front fees when taking a monthly deal. Even better, the bundles offered for both are largely similar.
Does Telstra Offer Mobile and Wireless Broadband?
Technological improvements have meant that setting up a mobile or wireless broadband plan for your home can cater to your needs while not being prohibitively expensive. While households with moderate to heavy internet consumption should still opt for a NBN or ADSL-based connection where possible, Telstra’s mobile broadband plans will get you connected from a wireless modem which you can bring yourself, or pay off over 24 or 36 months.

Telstra Broadband Plans and Pricing: How Much Does Telstra Cost?
Throughout the years, Telstra has priced their plans in response to customers’ changing needs – with a focus on making sure their customers get the best out of their internet. That’s resulted in a simple two-plan structure that should suit most new broadband users looking for an all-in-one answer to their communications needs. You have a choice between a 500GB/month data allowance or Unlimited data, with a $15 difference between the two plans – but aside from the data allowance, both offer the same high-value inclusions. Along with your broadband connection you get a home phone line with unlimited calls Australia-wide, discounted international calls, the latest Telstra Smart Modem Gen2, and optionally, the latest model of the Telstra TV box for only $9 a month more (or get it included in the $99 Telstra TV + Unlimited Data bundle!)
Does Telstra Offer Unlimited Plans?
The telco’s unlimited broadband plans are strengthened by their entertainment and sports inclusions. As we all know, many customers use a lot of their broadband data for watching streaming TV content. So it only makes sense to have streaming TV form a key part of Telstra’s unlimited deals. If you’re keen on getting Telstra TV, the Telstra TV + Unlimited Data bundle at $99 is the way to go. It’s now available on a month-to-month basis and includes 10,000 Telstra Plus rewards points and a free month of Foxtel Now access.

What Broadband Plans and Bundles does Telstra Offer?
Telstra’s size and reach mean that they can offer more than most networks – which makes them great for bundling. While specific plans from Telstra can occasionally be middle-to-high on the pricing spectrum, the best way to save is to bundle in phone or entertainment with your broadband. If you’re opting just for internet, Telstra’s plan offers 500GB of broadband data at $75/month on NBN25, now available on a month-to-month plan. If you want more speed and data, there’s the Unlimited plan on NBN50 speed for $90/month or NBN100 at $110/month.

Telstra Plus Loyalty Program
A great way to determine how genuine a company is, is to look at the way they treat their existing customers. While plenty put in significant effort to attract prospective customers, there is sometimes a tendency to take current customers for granted. Telstra have long had a solid rewards scheme, but recently they have created Telstra Plus – which has more in common with a credit card rewards plan than any loyalty plan seen in the Aussie telco industry.
Anyone with a personal Telstra account – whether it be for phone or broadband – is eligible, with registration easy to do on the company’s website. From there you can start earning Telstra Plus Points on every dollar you spend. There are three loyalty tiers: Member, Silver and Gold. If you’re not happy with the service, you can cancel without paying any early termination charges – and they’ll refund the first month’s plan fee and any hardware payments. You just need to let them know within 30 days. That should be easy as long as you follow through.
