Finding a mobile plan on a tight budget used to be like finding a needle in a haystack. And once you dug out that needle it often came with a bunch of limitations on calls, texts and everything else. But times have changed very much for the better. These days, there’s plenty of choice at the budget end of the mobile plan market. It’s into this increasingly competitive field that Moose Mobile ventures.
A relatively new company, the endearingly-named Moose was originally in the business of selling refurbished iPhones at low prices. They were effectively recycling older models and getting them into the hands of budget-conscious users at a substantial discount. Earlier in 2017, though, the Brisbane-based company made its move into the heady world of mobile voice and data plans, operating on the extensive Optus mobile network, and launched under the brand name of Moose Mobile. Today, they offer a wide range of great value SIM only plans as well as data plans with a whole lot of flexibility.
What Makes Moose Mobile Different?
Moose Mobile keeps everything simple and straightforward, starting with its colourful, easy-to-navigate website. They offer two products – SIM only plans and data plans – on a BYO-phone basis only. There are no contracts – unless you want one – or other fees to complicate things. The monthly price you’ll pay and what you get for your money is clearly laid out and easy to understand. Plus, being a contract-free, month-to-month service, you’re free to move between different-sized plans at any time if you find your need change. There are, however, 12-month plans available if that’s what you’re after, simply to provide customers with a little more bang for their buck.
Moose Mobile’s SIM Only Plans
Moose Mobile offers a wide range of SIM only plans, meaning if you’ve got your own phone, Moose will send you a SIM card and you can get started on one of their plans right away. You can choose to either join up on a month-to-month basis for added flexibility, or commit to a 12-month contract for a little more value.
Each contract term has eight different options, ranging from the 1GB month-to-month contract for just $9, all the way up to the 90GB plans, which will cost you $78 per month with no lock-in contract.
Best-Value Plans from Moose
Get your money’s worth with Moose Mobile’s range of affordable and high-value plans. No-contract plans start at $9/mth, powered by the Optus 4G network.
Moose Mobile Offers Unlimited Calls and Texts
With the exception of the month-to-month 1GB option – which gives you unlimited texts and 200 minutes of calls – every single one of Moose Mobile’s plans will give you unlimited calls to Australian mobile and landline numbers, as well as unlimited SMS and MMS to all Australian and international numbers. On top of that, you’ll also get unlimited voicemail, regardless of the contract that you choose.
Moose Mobile’s Data Plans
Whether you’re looking to get a SIM for your tablet so you can take it out on the road and browse websites on the move, or you need a big chunk of mobile data for a 4G dongle to get your laptop or desktop computer online without a wired internet connection, Moose Mobile’s data plans adopt a similar “cover all the bases” approach. Prices per month range from $12 (for 1.5GB) to $78 (a massive 70GB). For us, the sweet spot between value and data for portable devices would be the $18 plan, which gives you a perfectly reasonable 5GB. If you’re looking for something more like a replacement for a fixed broadband connection, then either the top 70GB plan or the $58 50GB plan should suffice.
All of these data plans are month-to-month and contract-free, so you can change plans at any time. Unlike the voice plans, though, even the big-data options here run on the Optus 4G network, so you’re not asked to choose between faster speed or more data.
The Acclaimed Optus 4G Network
Unless you opt for one of the two SIM only plans with the biggest data allowances, you’ll be streaming on the high quality Optus 4G network. Reaching 96.5% of Australians, this network will have you covered across a large majority of our vast land. As mentioned, the 30GB and 90GB plans will operate on the Optus 3G Plus network, but that will still be more than enough for regular browsing.
