Moose Mobile Review
Finding a mobile plan on a tight budget used to be like finding a needle in a haystack. And once you dug out that needle it often came with a bunch of limitations on calls, texts and data. But times have changed – and they’ve changed for the better. These days, there’s plenty of choice at the budget end of the mobile plan market. It’s into this increasingly competitive field that Moose Mobile ventures.
Moose Mobile plans are available with no lock-in contract – though if you try them and like what you see, there’s money to be saved by going for one of the 12-month plans, where you get more data for less per month.
Moose Mobile was originally in the business of selling refurbished iPhones at low prices, getting older models into the hands of budget-conscious users at a substantial discount. Earlier in 2017, the Brisbane-based company made its move into the heady world of mobile voice and data plans, operating on the extensive Optus mobile network, and launched under the brand name of Moose Mobile. Today, they offer a wide range of great value SIM only plans as well as data plans with a whole lot of flexibility.

What Makes Moose Mobile Unique?
Moose Mobile keeps everything simple and straightforward, starting with its colourful, easy-to-navigate website. They offer two products – SIM only plans and mobile data plans – on a BYO-phone basis only. The monthly price you’ll pay and what you get for your money is clearly laid out and easy to understand. Plus, being a contract-free, month-to-month service, you’re free to move between different-sized plans at any time if you find your need change. There are, however, 12-month plans available if that’s what you’re after, simply to provide customers with a little more bang for their buck.
What are Moose Mobile’s Best Features?
Does Moose Mobile provide SIM Only Plans?
Moose Mobile offers a wide range of SIM only plans, meaning if you’ve got your own phone, Moose will send you a SIM card and you can get started on one of their plans right away. You can choose to either join up on a month-to-month basis for added flexibility, or commit to a 12-month contract for a little more value.
The 12-month contract has eight different options, ranging from the 1GB month-to-month contract for just $9.80, all the way up to the 80GB plan, which will cost you $49 per month with no lock-in contract. The month-to-month offer has nine different options from 1GB per month at $8.80 up to $49 for 40GB.
12-Month Contract Plans
What about Unlimited Calls and Texts?
With the exception of the month-to-month 1GB option – which gives you unlimited texts and 200 minutes of calls – every single one of Moose Mobile’s deals will give you unlimited calls to Australian mobile and landline numbers, as well as unlimited SMS and MMS to all Australian and international numbers. On top of that, you’ll also get unlimited voicemail, regardless of the contract that you choose.
Does Moose Mobile carry No Contract Data Plans?
Whether you’re looking to get a SIM for your tablet so you can take it out on the road and browse websites on the move, or you need a big chunk of mobile data for a 4G dongle to get your laptop or desktop computer online without a wired internet connection, Moose Mobile’s data plans adopt a similar “cover all the bases” approach. Prices per month range from $12 (for 1.5GB) to $74 (a massive 250GB). For us, the sweet spot between value and data for portable devices would be the $18 plan, which gives you a perfectly reasonable 7GB. If you’re looking for something more like a replacement for a fixed broadband connection, then either the top 250GB plan or the $54 50GB plan should suffice.
No-Contract Data Plans
All of these data plans are month-to-month and contract-free, so you can change plans at any time. Just like the voice plans, even the big-data options here run on the Optus 4G network, so you’re not asked to choose between faster speed or more data.
What network does Moose Mobile run on?
With Moose Mobile, you’ll be streaming on the high-quality Optus 4G network. Reaching 96.5% of Australians, this network will have you covered across our vast land. It used to be that the telco’s top-end plans with the largest data allowances operate on the Optus 3G network. Not anymore. This time, all plans are powered by the speedy Optus 4G Plus, no exceptions.
