The world’s laziest, lasagna-loving, Monday-hating orange tabby cat is back this year in The Garfield Movie with Chris Pratt voicing the titular character. Following an unexpected reunion with his stray cat dad Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), Garfield and his best canine friend Odie (Harvey Guillén) are forced to leave the utmost comforts of their indoor lives to embark on a crazy adventure.

Expect more fun ruckus in this new CG animated Garfield film that also stars Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible), Nicholas Hoult (The Great), and Cecily Strong (SNL).

The 2024 Garfield movie will arrive in Australian theatres on May 30, 2024. Tickets are now on sale – you can check out The Garfield Movie showtimes by selecting any cinemas near you.

The new Garfield film will be released by Sony Pictures. Typically, Sony Pictures movies make their subscription streaming debut in Australia through Foxtel, BINGE and Amazon Prime Video.

However, given Sony’s deal with Netflix and Disney+ for streaming rights, both streaming giants get first dibs on the new Garfield movie starring Chris Pratt.

It will first stream on Netflix, most likely six months after theatrical run or longer depending on box-office performance. After Netflix’s rights expire (after 18 months), the movie then moves to Disney+ and Hulu.

For streaming in Australia, we’ll have to wait how this pans out, given Foxtel’s deal with Sony Pictures.

After being adopted by his very patient, tolerant, and generous owner Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult), Garfield, an orange tabby cat with a penchant for eating lasagna and doing nothing all day long has so far lived a very sheltered life. He’s not the only one, there’s also Odie, an adorable, slow-witted yellow beagle who’s also Garfield’s best friend.

That all changes when Garfield’s absent father Vic returns, bringing with him his tough street life. To save Vic from the troubles he brings along with him, Garfield and Odie are thrown into a high-stakes heist – only they don’t know how to operate in the streets being spoiled, pampered pets that they are. Their attempts, however, will be the movie’s main source of hilarious highlights.

2024’s Garfield movie is directed by Mark Dindal from a screenplay written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove and David Reynolds. It is based on the comic strip character created by Jim Davis.
