What is the plot of The Doll Factory?

The new series follows Iris (Esmé Creed-Miles), a frustrated artist trapped in a life she doesn’t want. She finds solace in the company of her twin sister, Rose (Mirren Mack), as they create mourning dolls together for work. But Iris has a secret that she only has the courage to unveil at night.

When she meets Silas (Éanna Hardwicke), an ambitious taxidermist, and Louis (George Webster), a painter who is seeking for his next muse, Iris is given the opportunity to start a new life. But starting anew is not without hard sacrifices; and so she is forced to leave her sister and compromise her reputation.

The difficult decision she’s ever had to make proved to be enlightening, allowing her to explore her sexuality, liberate herself from stifling patriarchal expectations, and experience new things.

However, the newness she enjoys comes with a price as dark secrets begin to unfold and dangerous obsessions start making itself known.

The Doll Factory is directed by Sacha Polak and was adapted for television by writer Charley Miles. The book’s author, Elizabeth Macneal, also serves as an executive producer alongside Anna Burns, Charley Miles, Richard Tulk-Hart, and Tony Wood.
