Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon play investigative reporters who challenge the stifling sexism in the 1960s to break the story of the Boston Strangler. Based on the true story of the notorious serial killer, the film is written and directed by Matt Ruskin with filmmaker Ridley Scott producing. Now available to watch on streaming TV, find out how you can watch Boston Strangler in Australia using this guide.

What’s in this Guide?

A movie about the Boston Strangler was first released in 1968, just a year after killer Albert DeSalvo was sentenced to life in prison. It starred Henry Fonda, George Kennedy, and Tony Curtis. Now more than 50 years later, his twisted story and the period of paranoia resulting from his crimes is getting adapted again for the big screen, this time starring Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola, and Chris Cooper.

The 2023 adaptation will be told from the perspective of journalist Loretta McLaughlin, the reporter who first connected the Boston Strangler murders that resulted in the deaths of 13 women. McLaughlin is played by Keira Knightley in the film, who we learn began her career as a lifestyle reporter.

Discovering a string of murders, she makes the conclusion that there’s a serial killer spreading terror in the city. Unable to get the support of her superior to pursue and report on the story, she decides to follow the case to every corner of the city, putting herself at great risk. With the help of fellow reporter Jean Cole, they embark on a mission to uncover the truth, even if that means being at the centre of far too many horrifying crimes.
